Goodbye Daylight Saving, Hello Darkness!

Time sure does fly by…it’s already time to set the clocks back when it seemed like just yesterday, we set them forward!

It’s that time of year again. That time when we have to set our clocks back an hour, meaning it gets dark a heck of a lot earlier in the evening hours. We all have different opinions on how we feel about it – me, I’m not a fan. I like the freedom of being able to go outside after dinner while it’s still light and I appreciate every ray of sunshine I can get. Darkness seems to signify the day is over, when it’s really not, and it gives me a closed in, claustrophobic feeling. Read more

When it Comes to Cats, the Eyes Have It!

Zoey

Granted, today is Sunday, a day meant for rest and relaxation. And granted, my cats are quite adept at following that mindset based on the nearly 16 hours a day they nap. But when awake, those glorious, mesmerizing eyes of theirs have a thousand stories to tell. Probably most of them are based on food. Some of them on bird watching, and the rest are those benign moments where they appear to be intently staring at absolutely nothing at all, thinking us foolish as we stare back, pretending we see something, too*.

For Sunday-Selfie I’ve given Zoey the top billing picture with the rest of the gang to follow! Hope you enjoy and have a great day everyone!

*It turns out when cats stare into space, seemingly at nothing at nothing at all, they actually can see something us humans don’t. If you’d like to learn more about this fascinating ability cats have, as well as to read some entertaining and informative stories about cat behavior, please consider reading Makin’ Biscuits – Weird Cat Habits and the Even Weirder Habits of the Humans Who Love Them which recently won three awards at the Cat Writers’ Association Annual Awards Communications Contest, including Best Book/Other Category, the Animal-Human Bond Award from Goodnewsforpets.com, and the coveted President’s Award which represents the best of the best from all entries.

It’s a Blog Hop!

This Cat’s Got My Back…Literally…

I’m at work all week long, but on evenings and weekends, I spend a good amount of my time at my computer. Kizmet is my best-friend buddy and prefers I spend time with him. Rather than wait for me to wrap up the day to go sit on the couch for the rest of the night, he’s ingeniously figured out his own way of being next to me. And when I say next to me, I mean literally next to me. Read more

Surviving Irma and the Emotional Trauma of Putting Life Back Together

Seeing scary images like this on your TV screen is not uncommon during hurricane season. This one was Irma’s path 2 days before she was expected to hit South Florida. Photo from Fox News.

Living in Florida since 1994, I’ve been through my share of Mother Nature at her worst. 1999 alone gave us Hurricane Floyd, Tropical Storm Harvey, and Hurricane Irene. 2004 brought Hurricane Charley and 2005 was the year of Hurricane Wilma – a hurricane that destroyed much of South Florida, knocking my power out for two weeks during sweltering temperatures and destroying my fence and trees, as well as cracking the front windshield of my car and damaging the roof of my house. How I Overcame My Fear of the Veterinarian for National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day

I adore my cats and would go to the ends of the earth and back for them. That said, I have a confession. Despite knowing how important it is to bring a cat to the veterinarian for routine check-ups, there was a time I stopped bringing mine altogether. It’s not that I didn’t want to bring them; it’s that I literally wasn’t capable due to extreme mental anxieties that were crippling me with fear. With today being National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day, I felt the need to share my personal story and how I overcame my anxieties so I could once again bring my cats to the vet on a regular basis.
