My Personal Farewell to Cat Fancy Magazine

For nearly all of my life, Cat Fancy magazine has been a part of it. I find it bittersweet to know it will no longer be…

Irreverent. That was the word Susan Logan, editor of Cat Fancy magazine used with me when she called me last month to give me the news – after 50 years, Cat Fancy magazine would cease to exist, being replaced this May/June with a high-gloss, headline attention-getting, new print entity – Catster magazine born from Catster.com. Way Back Wordless Wednesday – Young Cats Edition

Last week for Wordless Wednesday, I shared a retrospective of the Zee/Zoey gang as they are now – my grown up, feline family! For today’s Wordless Wednesday, I thought I’d go in the opposite direction and share an image of each of them in their younger days!! Wow… time sure does fly! Enjoy and have a great rest of your week!

Zee-10

Zee back in 2010. While he is older now, some things never change – he loved lounging on the counter then and he loves it now!

Zoey-Kitten-7

This was Zoey back in 2008 – it’s hard to believe she was a mama less than a year after that! Just look at that precious face – it’s no wonder I fell in love with her the second I laid eyes on her!

Rolz-with-Bday-card

Even as a youngster, Rolz has always looked mature for his age. Seen here he is celebrating his first birthday with a card sent to him from his brother, Zeuss, who lives in Boston.

Mia-on-cage

Mia has always looked like a pretty princess. Here she is at 5 months of age.

Mia-on-panther-2

Peanut has a look of terror in her eyes as she sits atop this fake, life-size panther we have in our dining room (doesn’t everyone have a life-size panther in their dining room?) She is a little over a year in this picture and perhaps the terror stems from the fact she might think it is a real panther!

Kizmet--First-Vet

This was Kizmet in November of 2013 – he was about four months old when I resuced him and this was him at the vet’s office for a checkup to make sure he was healthy before I introduced him to the rest of the cats.

JazmineExploring

This was Jazmine last March when she was about four months old. This was the first time she ventured out of the bedroom we had her staying in so that we could slowly introduce her to the rest of the feline household. Suffice it to say she has ruled the roost ever since…

Purr-fect words as we start the New Year… Let’s make each day count!

For this Caturday, I have a bit of this and that to share. First off, I put together quite a comprehensive list at the Cat Writers’ Association blog of all the pertinent dates for 2015 related to the special days, weeks, and months devoted to promoting causes and awareness for our feline friends (click here for link). Close-Up Cats for Wordless Wednesday

I thought as we all try to play catch-up from the craziness of the holidays and settle into the routine of the New Year, it would be nice just to take a mid-week break by doing nothing but looking at beautiful kitties for a moment. To help in that regard, I have selected a picture of each of my darling cats. All of these are recent photos that Dan has taken within the past couple of months and it’s just amazing how big they’ve all gotten…

8-8-14Zee

The King of the Castle… our handsome Zee.

Zoey-14

And his beautiful Queen… the always stunning Zoey.

mia

Wide-eyed Mia.

peanut

Sweet and loving Peanut.

Rolz04-10-2014

Handsome Rolz.

10-25-14Kizmet1

A regal Kizmet.

jazmine

Our gorgeous Jazmine – while she is a big girl, she’s not nearly as wide as the photo would suggest… it’s just the angle of the camera!

I hope you enjoyed the pictures – I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t possibly pick a favorite, they are all so beautiful! Have a great day and wonderful rest of the week!

New Year Wishes and Reflections From Deb and the Zee/Zoey Kitties

A  treasured photo from days gone by when both my beloved Jazz and Harley were with me… A most poignant and timely reminder as we enter this new year, just how fragile, fleeting, and precious life truly is…

Within the course of 2014 there certainly was good, happiness, and much to be thankful for in my life. There was also an abundance of hardship, emotional discourse and sadness and my heart goes out to every one that had similar circumstances, as I know I am certainly not alone in that regard.

What were the lessons learned from it all? More so than ever, I think for me it was the realization that life truly is finite and extremely fragile. Not that I didn’t know it before, but losing Jazz in 2013 and then Harley unexpectedly in 2014, those were life altering moments for me that have indelibly colored my perspective on everything I see and do.
