Dear Senior Cat – a Poem by Deborah Barnes

November is Adopt a Senior Pet month, and with five of our seven cats officially seniors, it’s hard not to dwell on their age. International Cat Care states, “Feline ages and life stages have been redefined. Cats are elderly once they reach 11 years, with senior cats defined as those aged between 11 and 14 and geriatric cats 15 years and upwards.”

That means my Zoey, who was just a tiny kitten a mere fraction of a minute ago in my mind, is now geriatric at 15 years of age. It’s tough to wrap my head around the notion, as she looks and acts as young as ever. Age is but a number to her. Her most recent checkup came back with great results, and she’s as spry, alert, and overly vocal as ever. The only thing the vet recommended was some B-12 to help support her metabolic processes, and thankfully, she happily eats her Cobalequin chewable tablets with no fuss. Her eyes remain bright and clear, and her fur is as soft as silk, too, with no grooming issues. Read more

Classic Zee for Sunday and a Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day Reminder

Sunday can be a day for quiet reflection. And with Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day coming upon us this August 28, I think that’s why my mind has been thinking of my precious angel, Zee, all the more. He’s been gone for well over a year but remains strong in my heart. This picture of him is classic Zee. Happy and content with those beautiful, kind eyes.

I hope everyone has a lovely day and I also want to share with you that this Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day I’ll be featuring a poignant, custom-created giveaway opportunity from a talented artist from Etsy. If you have an angel pet, you’d like to remember, I hope you’ll stop by for details on how to enter.

Take care – Deb

A Sliver of Sunshine is a Cat’s Happy Slice of Life

Jazmine and her slice of sunshine.

The other day, Jazmine scratched at the floor and did her circle-around thing before she quietly settled. She had found the last sliver of sunlight before the day would soon set to nightfall and basked in its delicious warmth. I love her attitude. Finding joy in the smallest moments of life. A cup is half full, not half empty, kind of cat. We can learn lessons from our cats – they teach us every day, and this is one lesson I try my best to live by as well.

Happy Sunday and warm purrs to you all.

ProCATstinating – Not Getting Things Done and Feline Good About It

I’m a highly goal-oriented, check-things-off-the-list-get-things-done kind of person. I’m also a vegetarian with healthy eating habits. I don’t smoke, and I try to get my 10,000 steps a day in, too. Because of that, I’ve never been much on New Year resolutions, but this new year made me realize that despite some of my better habits, I’m also great at proCATstinating about certain mundane things. For example, putting away laundry, unpacking suitcases, making the bed, and keeping the couch pillows and blankets in tidy order. Now, you caught me; I said proCATstinating, right?
