Sometimes it’s just best not to question things and go with the flow. For example, did you know today was Talk Like a Pirate Day? What? You’re kidding… you didn’t know either… Does Hallmark have a card for that?
Well, apparently it’s a pretty big deal in the blogoshere, especially for cats, so when in Rome… err, I mean when on treacherous high counter tops….Sigh… you know what I mean. Or not. Anyhow, on behalf of the day, go shiver some timbers, or Yo Ho Ho with a bottle of rum….
Grr….. we think Zee makes a lovely pirate and if you don’t agree, we will make you walk the plank…

When it comes to feeding options for our cats, not only can the choices available be dizzying, but the opinions as to what brand or type of food to feed them dizzying as well and conversations can often reach pitch levels that rival a political debate. Well, I don’t like to debate politics and I also don’t like to tell people what they should, or should not feed their cats, as I realize that we all have our own personal reasons – be they holistic, scientific, financial, or specific dietary needs and I try to respect that. This picture was taken in September of 2010 as the debut image for Zee & Zoey’s blog. I was surrounded by my beloved furry family with Jazz front and center. As I reflect back, I realize I am never alone… the circumstances might change, but my cats always adapt to be by my side.
There is no doubt my cats are an integral part of my life and I have always lavished them with attention, both consciously and subconsciously. The conscious became especially evident the past few months as I spent nearly every waking moment taking care of the special needs that Mr. Jazz had to ensure his final time with us as comfortable as possible. Now that he has passed on, I find my mind frequently wandering and I wondered if I had inadvertently given the other cats less attention than they needed or did they not even notice the difference at all?
I came to the conclusion despite the general preference cats have for routine, they are also far more intuitive and flexible than what appears on the surface. What happened, I now realize, is that they adjusted around my needs with Jazz to suit their own. It was an implied, “we know you love us, but you need to take care of Jazz so we’ll figure out our own unique ways to spend time with you when we need it.” And mind you, it’s not as if I was ignoring them – far from it, but I just wasn’t myself, yet there they were, right by my side all along. We are going to take a break from blogging today to take a moment to pay respect and tribute to all those affected by the tragedies of 9/11. From the senseless deaths of the victims, to the survivors who have to suffer the pain of remembering the day, to even the animals that were left homeless in some cases, wondering when their loving caretaker would come home for the day, of which some who never did, we give a moment of silence to all of you.
We never quite move on, nor do we forget. But, we do persevere, and we do keep the spirit of these dear souls close to our hearts…
Blessings to you and yours from all of us at the Zee/Zoey gang

Hey Everyone! Rolz here…
Like my buddy Mr. Jazz who just passed to the Bridge last week, I’m a cat of few words and don’t like a lot of fuss made about me. You can look at me and admire my handsomeness, but please don’t touch me. And don’t ever think I’m gonna jump on that cozy lap of yours and settle in for a nap… Read more
