A couple of months ago I stopped by Cats Exclusive, an organization and adoption center local to me devoted to rescue, low cost spay/neuter and TNR efforts. I wanted to introduce myself to them as well as to drop off some of my books so that they could give them away as gifts when someone adopted a cat. It was through them that I found out about the 2013 CFA Annual Cat Show and they told me I should look into attending since it would be local to me and a good venue to sell my book and meet fellow cat lovers. In tribute to Lion King – he is my poster cat for National Feral Cat Day

I am so deeply entrenched in cat advocacy issues now that it is almost hard for me to believe that several years ago I didn’t even know what a feral cat was, let alone that there were millions of them living within our communities across the country and that compassionate people were ensuring their rights and well-being by caring for them and managing their populations through education and TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) efforts. This photo was taken several years ago when Jazz was still with us. He was a senior at that time and Zee and Harley were just verging on mature status, with Zoey and kittens checking in as young adults.

Living in a household of seven cats of ages varying from 4 to 9, feeding time can be a bit overwhelming – not because they are all underfoot and singing a loud meow chorus at me to hurry up and put dinner in their bowls, but because cats have very different dietary needs throughout the stages of their life, especially when it comes to cats of mature or senior status. As you know from last Caturday’s post, the humans are taking the time on the weekends to venture outside of the house to enjoy the local flavor that South Florida offers. Something about finding themselves and expanding their horizons, whatever that means.
