A couple days ago for Wordless Wednesday I posted several pictures of the gang “letting it all hang out.” It consisted of them in various stages of relaxation with their adorable bodies hanging off one of our cat condos as well as the kitchen counter. The early days… back when all four of Zee and Zoey’s kittens lived with us – at this point they did not have permanent names and we could barely tell them apart.

Once upon a time for 4 little kittens, hanging out consisted of a very orderly world with a floor and 4 walls. And then one day at approximately 8 weeks of age, the floodgates of the bedroom door opened up and a whole new world existed. One that was tall and could be climbed. While we don’t have the double-digit minus degree temperatures that some of you have been experiencing across the country the past couple of weeks, we have still felt the effects of the Polar Vortex in South Florida with temperatures occasionally dipping into the forties at night. Now granted that might seem like a heat wave to some of you and I’m not looking for a woe is me violin, but it is all relative – when you are used to warmer temperatures and they suddenly dip, cold is cold. I did a post this past Caturday on boxes, stuff, and the inventory of life. It was a thought-provoking piece and I really enjoyed everyone’s reflective comments. But what about the real important stuff to a cat? Like baskets… life doesn’t just have to be about boxes, you know… So, as part of our ongoing Tour de Cat series where we show you a firsthand tour of our house, Zee/Zoey style, for this Wordless Wednesday we focus on the often over-shadowed, but very important nonetheless, basket.

Hmmm…. what do we have here? Zoey wonders if she should keep exploring, play with a toy, or find a good basket to nap in…

At year-end where I have my day job, it means the grueling and thankless job of taking inventory and it takes days and days. The company was founded in 1978 and some of the inventory is so old I think it dates back to then. Boxes, totes, pallets, and containers are filled with product and small parts and many of them are caked with dirt and grime as they wait for the annual counting ritual. Heaven forbid we throw any of the old stuff away in case we might need it for some obscure reason and I come home exhausted – every bone in my body aches and all I want to do is shower and crash on my favorite spot on the couch to watch some mindless TV.
