Cats, Kids, Cookies, and Calendars!

Rolz-XmasAre they here yet, Rolz? Are they here? No… I’m not talking about Santa and his reindeer – I’m talking about the kids!! Yup, tomorrow my youngest son, Joe, from Upstate New York and Dan’s youngest daughter, Jackie, from Boston, will be here to help us celebrate the holidays. And if that isn’t exciting enough, the following week Dan’s oldest daughter, Crystal (also from Boston) and her boyfriend, Dave will be coming by! We will also have Dan’s Mom coming by for a few days and then, of course, there is my Mom and my oldest son, Chris, who both live locally that will be in and out to share in the festivities! It’s that time of year when we love to deck the halls, bestow gifts, and eat, drink, and be merry! I’m all for it – it’s my favorite time of the year but when it comes the holidays we have to be mindful of the safety of our kitties because they can be extremely curious and many of the foods, plants, and decorations that are part of the festivities can be dangerous or even lethal to our feline friends. The Many Shades of a Crazy Cat Lady

It is no secret in my cat-centric world that a lot of my friends and colleagues despise the term “crazy cat lady” and based on its loose definition, i.e., that a “crazy cat lady” is a woman, usually middle-aged or older, who lives alone with no husband or boyfriend and fills the empty, lonely void in her life with as many cats as she can, I can understand why. The definition has expanded into part of our mainstream language and has become a popular cliché to describe just about anyone who is a cat person in a derogatory manner. Read more
