Letting the Fur Down for Mother’s Day!

Since Zoey gave birth to her four kittens on February 12, 2009 (apart from Zeuss, who went on to his forever home with a family friend in Boston), they have been bonded to her like glue. There is rarely a time she is not surrounded by one, two, or all of them.

Zoey, a few days after giving birth to her kittens on 2/12/09.

The love is mutual. She is still a mama at heart, cuddling and grooming them nearly daily like they are little kittens. She also still scolds and reprimands them. Try coming near her food dish, and they will get a stern growl of admonishment.

But sometimes, a mom needs to let her fur down, so to speak. She needs a moment to relax, utterly unincumbered by a pile of children on top of her. So, for this Mother’s Day, I say to Zoey, you go girl!! Take that nap like nobody’s business!!

I say the same to all moms, felines, and humans alike. Enjoy the day, and just be yourself. For me, it’s the epiphany of saying, “I’m letting the hair go gray, and I’m completely happy about it.”

Zoey, letting her fur down!

Happy Mother’s Day to all who celebrate in whatever fashion that means! Me, I’m very, very blessed. This last picture says it all. It was taken last month at a family reunion. It shows my mom with her children (my brother and me), her five grandchildren, and her two great-grandchildren. It was a wickedly hot day, and we were all sweating and a bit inebriated. Meaning none of us were looking our best. But to me, it’s perfect because I know it’s a moment my mom and all of us held dear to our hearts.

Take care all and revel in each day we are given.
