I’ll be in New York City this Saturday and Sunday for Cat Camp NYC and it should prove to be quite the adventure!

Whoo Hoo! I’m going cat-camping. Well, not literally camping. Or camping with cats. I’m going to New York City this weekend to attend Cat Camp NYC – New York’s inaugural cat-centric symposium. I had heard about the event months ago – it’s a 2-day venture that features speakers and panelists sharing their knowledge on a wide range of cat-related topics, assorted vendors selling all kinds of cool cat stuff, and cats for adoption from the local area. Due to the costs involved – airfare, food, lodging, etc. – I didn’t think I could go, so I put the thought out of my head. But sometimes fate intervenes and when I was presented with the unexpected opportunity to spend the weekend with my dear friend Laura Zaccardi of Squeedunk Whiskers & Warehouses who has a warehouse studio apartment near the event, what could a cat-loving girl do but pounce at the chance? Okay Peanut… I think everyone gets it… you need some help. No need to shout!

Wow! Hard to believe, but my upcoming book is finally starting to take shape! Focusing on the silly, odd, crazy, and weird things our cats do, the premise is simple—with over 70 million homeless cats living on the streets and in shelters in the U.S. alone, it’s my hope to bring attention to the public eye how wonderful cats are as pets to help increase adoptions. I want to bust the myth that they’re too aloof to make good pets, which is one of the reasons they are sometimes overlooked for adoption. Read more

Gratitude. That’s the only way I can adequately describe what I felt during my days at the BlogPaws/Cat Writers’ Association conference held at the gorgeous and tranquil Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass Spa and Resort in Phoenix last weekend. It was an odd dichotomy—both calming and spiritually nurturing, based on the Native American roots of the hotel—and typically hectic as a result of the whirlwind of events jammed into a 3-day time frame. Being an ambassador for BlogPaws also elevated the interactive notch to extremes my normally introverted self wouldn’t pursue. I’m the kind of cat that has to hide under the bed a bit before she warms up to company, but that’s okay. Pushing the personal envelope isn’t always a bad thing. Read more

Cats, computers, books, blogging, writing… yup… that about sums me up!

It’s almost impossible for me to believe, but I’ve been blogging for almost 6 years now. It started as an afterthought – I was writing my first book – The Chronicles of Zee & Zoey – A Journey of the Extraordinarily Ordinary and it was brought to my attention at a writing conference that I needed a blog. So I started a blog. I got business cards. I set up an LLC. All without having the foresight to realize that even though I knew Zee and Zoey were two of my cats that inspired me to change my life, unless you knew me personally, or bought the book, the rest of the world probably didn’t. If cats live seven years to our one, does that mean when it comes to their 15 minutes of fame, they actually get 105? I ponder weird things like that, which is probably why I’m so excited about my upcoming book about the weird, strange, and silly habits/behaviors of cats, along with the weird, strange, and silly habits/behaviors of the humans who love them.
