When it Comes to Cats, the Eyes Have It!

Zoey

Granted, today is Sunday, a day meant for rest and relaxation. And granted, my cats are quite adept at following that mindset based on the nearly 16 hours a day they nap. But when awake, those glorious, mesmerizing eyes of theirs have a thousand stories to tell. Probably most of them are based on food. Some of them on bird watching, and the rest are those benign moments where they appear to be intently staring at absolutely nothing at all, thinking us foolish as we stare back, pretending we see something, too*.

For Sunday-Selfie I’ve given Zoey the top billing picture with the rest of the gang to follow! Hope you enjoy and have a great day everyone!

*It turns out when cats stare into space, seemingly at nothing at nothing at all, they actually can see something us humans don’t. If you’d like to learn more about this fascinating ability cats have, as well as to read some entertaining and informative stories about cat behavior, please consider reading Makin’ Biscuits – Weird Cat Habits and the Even Weirder Habits of the Humans Who Love Them which recently won three awards at the Cat Writers’ Association Annual Awards Communications Contest, including Best Book/Other Category, the Animal-Human Bond Award from Goodnewsforpets.com, and the coveted President’s Award which represents the best of the best from all entries.

It’s a Blog Hop!

This Cat’s Got My Back…Literally…

I’m at work all week long, but on evenings and weekends, I spend a good amount of my time at my computer. Kizmet is my best-friend buddy and prefers I spend time with him. Rather than wait for me to wrap up the day to go sit on the couch for the rest of the night, he’s ingeniously figured out his own way of being next to me. And when I say next to me, I mean literally next to me. Read more

A Momentary Cat Panic at Zee & Zoey’s on a Relaxing Sunday

Hey everyone – we just wanted to take an extremely brief second from our delightful sunlit infused nap to revel in the glory that is Sunday. There’s nothing better than being a cat and spending the entire glorious, wonderful, beautiful, gorgeous day relaxing and taking it easy. It truly doesn’t get any better than this…

Wait a minute…there seems to be a distinctively ominous change in the air…is something going on?

Yes kitties, you are right. There is a distinctive change in the air. It’s me. I’m already feeling anxious knowing this upcoming week will be the last one before the onslaught of chaotic, nightmarish bumper-to-bumper traffic, and horrendous driving to work delays will happen because school starts again on August 21. My normal 20 minute drive will now escalate to 45 minutes or more and no matter how hard I try to remain calm and unaffected by it, I can’t. Traffic delays make me nuts and despite my relatively peaceful nature, it gets my blood boiling.

But honestly guys, I don’t know what the panic is. You don’t drive. You don’t work. And for that matter, you don’t go to school. Your life will remain exactly the same – living the life of deeply spoiled cats who are loved and adored by their humans to the ends of the earth and back.

Actually, I take that back. You’ll lives will chance slightly. Rather than me coming home from work my normal grumpy self, I will be even more grumpy! I will grab my glass of wine quicker than normal, but I promise, you will still be fed nearly two seconds after I walk in the door, and you will be able to look forward to me brushing you, playing with you, and giving you treats like I do any other day…

Happy Sunday everyone!! I hope you have a day that is as great as the one my cats will have! If you live in Florida like I do, chances are school will be starting within the next week or so for you, too. School starts earlier here than it does in the Northern states, but it also ends earlier, too, so it all evens out in the end!

Preparing for Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day 2017

Macro of rainbow rose heart flower and multi colored petals

As some of you may be aware, I founded Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day (RBRD) in 2015 as a special day for pet guardians to honor the memory of those beloved pets in their life they have loved and lost, but never forgotten – whether fur, fin, feathers, scales or something else. It’s held every year on August 28, in honor of the day I had to say goodbye to my precious Ragdoll cat, Mr. Jazz, the meow author of Purr Prints of the Heart – A Cat’s Tale of Life, Death, and Beyond.

I’m mentioning it early for those of you who might want to participate in some manner. For those that plan on doing a special blog post, I will be hosting a RBRD blog hop. The post will go live at 12:00 a.m, EST, on August 28 with the code and linking information available at that time. I have also created a Facebook event page for those who want to post a picture, write a poem, share a favorite memory, upload a video, or share a blog post link. This is the event link  – please feel free to invite others you think might want to be a part of the day. And as with every year, there is no pressure to participate and I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable. I know it’s a sad day. But it’s also a beautiful day. The outpouring of love I see is so touching, as people share in the love they had (and still have) for their pet(s) and it’s a time when we can all take a moment to collectively come together and comfort one another.

I’ve created a new logo for the event and if anyone would like to use it, please email me at info@zeezoey.com and I’ll forward it to you, as I’d prefer not to post it on my blog at the moment. I will also be doing something special this year with several companies that specialize in products for pet loss and grieving. If you’ll be sharing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or other social venues, there is a hashtag #rainbowbridgeremembranceday that was trending last year if you care to use it, and if you’re crediting me for founding the day in any of your posts, please reference me as Deb Barnes of Zee and Zoey’s Cat Chronicles, author of Purr Prints of the Heart and founder of Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day

Thank you in advance and have a wonderful Sunday!
