I know I’m preaching to the choir here, after all, this is a blog for cat lovers and I know I don’t have to tell you all just how incredibly wonderful cats are!! In our world, there are not enough adjectives available to describe how much we love our feline friends, to the point we make up words to convey just how pawtastically and purrfectly amazing they are!

But, June is *Adopt-a-Cat Month, so I would be remiss if I did not do my part to extol the virtues of these exquisite creatures to those who might not know as we do, that by having a cat (or two, three, or eight as in my case) in their lives, that they will be happier and healthier people. Happy Wednesday all and a special thank you to my Dan for allowing me to use this special picture today. He took it many, many years ago and this beautiful girl is now in her 40’s! I love how precious and innocent she is – the love she has for her cat shines through the black and white of the image. I added the floral background to give the photo a beautiful frame for the sentiment of the photo. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

A poignant reminder that the time we share with our pets is fleeting – love and appreciate them each and every day you are blessed to have with them!

It is Pet Appreciation Week and with the passing of Mr. Jazz last August, even though he was with me for 15 years, I can’t help but be reminded just how brief the time we are given with our pets truly is in the scheme of the time-frame of our human lives. We would like to think they will be with us forever, but the truth is, they won’t and we certainly don’t need a date on a calendar to tell us to appreciate our pets – those of us that have them know unequivocally the love, companionship, devotion, loyalty and joy they bring to us each and every day.

Rather than dwell on it in a sad sense, I decided to celebrate this week in honor of all the pets in my life – both past and present – by sharing some of the many large and small ways I appreciate them with a little help from one of the friends I made at Global Pet Expo a few months ago – West Paw Design – a company who’s entire mindset is based on appreciation, whether it be appreciating pets, people, or our planet.  Read more

I wish I could be writing from a happier place, but my co-worker’s 35 year old daughter was killed suddenly a few days ago in a car accident and it has left me deeply saddened for her loss.  The death of a loved one is never easy, but in the natural order of life, having a child pass before a parent is just so unbearable and I pray she has the strength to go on. And to make an already unimaginable situation worse, it turns out had she been wearing a seat belt while driving, it probably would have saved her life. Read more

Holidays bring up different feelings and emotions in all of us and this is particularly true for Mother’s Day. For some of us, we are remembering a Mom who has since passed away and the day brings with it bittersweet memories. Some of us will be celebrating the day in person with their mother like I will and some will be celebrating with their mom’s, but not necessarily in the traditional sense.

To me, a mother is a state of mind and she can even be a he. A mother represents a certain love and responsibility towards a being and that can span across races, species, and sexes. Not all mom’s are beloved and some are. Some mom’s come in the form of a sister or an aunt and some mom’s can be a dad. To me, Mother’s Day is the celebration of that special someone in your life that you think of as “Mom.”

I am happy to say that not only am I daughter to a wonderful mom, but I am mom to my two fabulous sons, Chris and Joey, and my wonderful step-children – Crystal, Michael, and Jackie. I also consider myself mom to my beloved feline gang and I am also blessed to witness the relationship Zoey shares as mom to the three of her four children that live with us – Mia, Peanut, and Rolz. But perhaps more incredibly is the role she has assumed as mom to adopted cats Kizmet and Jazmine. I am in awe of her compassion and so in that spirit, all of us at Zee and Zoey’s wish you and yours a wonderful Mother’s Day. May it bring with it a day of peace, happiness, and reconciliation.
