We might not realize it, but to our cats, every day can seem like Groundhog Day.

Groundhog Day was a few weeks ago and while its traditionally known for Phil, the Groundhog from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania who emerges from his home to predict whether spring will be early or if we’re in for a longer winter, for many of us, when we think of Groundhog Day we think of Bill Murray in the movie of the same name. While it was enjoyable and completely fulfilling, the process for writing my most recent book, Makin’ Biscuits – Weird Cat Habits and the Even Weirder Habits of the Humans Who Love Them, turned out to be far more work than I initially anticipated. I had originally thought the book would be a collection of funny and cute stories from assorted cat lovers, sharing the wild and crazy antics of their feline companions. When I determined the book should also be a resource to share tips and advice on understanding cat behavior, that’s when it got serious. If only I had known about Ramona Marek’s recently released book, Cats for the GENIUS, before I found myself knee-deep in kitty-facts research. Read more

Mia is not amused with my assessment of her…

My Mia is the definition of a finicky cat when it comes to food. I’m sure if you went to the dictionary and looked up the word finicky, her picture would be featured front and center. She’s such a pain in the butt when it comes to feeding her that I have to concoct something exclusively for her because she won’t eat what the others do. And when I come home from blogging/writing conferences with a suitcase full of kitty treats, she snubs them all, looking at me like how dare I even try to give her something that every other cat in the world would want to gobble up. Okay Peanut… I think everyone gets it… you need some help. No need to shout!

Wow! Hard to believe, but my upcoming book is finally starting to take shape! Focusing on the silly, odd, crazy, and weird things our cats do, the premise is simple—with over 70 million homeless cats living on the streets and in shelters in the U.S. alone, it’s my hope to bring attention to the public eye how wonderful cats are as pets to help increase adoptions. I want to bust the myth that they’re too aloof to make good pets, which is one of the reasons they are sometimes overlooked for adoption. Read more
