Taking it Easy on Sunday and Catching up With Deb and the Cats!

Of course I’m fine… why do you ask?

Some of you may, or may not have noticed, but I have not been able to blog for a while. I continue to burn both ends of the candle, but relief should be in sight soon. After 5 years of employment, I left my day job to join efforts with someone I had worked with about 10 years ago. While my previous day job had more than its share of stress and issues, including the grueling hour long drive each way, my employers were like family to me and I did not want to be disrespectful by leaving them in a lurch.

That is why I have been burning both ends of the candle – I needed to give them a proper two-week notice to wrap things up for them, but my new job needed me immediately due to an emergency that had unexpectedly cropped up – to compromise, I worked both jobs as best as I could juggle them for the two weeks and as a consequence my personal life that includes my cat stuff, literally took a standstill and I was emotionally, mentally, and physically frazzled at the end of each night. When Cats Do Blog Posts…

Zee-Jazmine

“Hey Jazmine,” says Zee. “Wake up, I need a favor from you!”

Hi y’all! Jazmine here! Zee just came to tell me that human Mom has a migraine and that I gotta wise up and do today’s blog post for her as a favor to him. Apparently a migraine makes Mom really grumpy which makes Zee grumpy too because he doesn’t like to see Mom suffering. He says that according to Mom, a migraine feels like having a crowbar inside your head, splitting it in half. Yikes… that doesn’t sound too nice at all and since she does feed us and scoop our litter, I guess filling in for her is the least I can do. I’m just gonna grab Mia and Rolz for some help since I’m kinda new to this blogging thing… Read more

A Special Farewell to a Friend, Mentor, Writer, and Animal Lover – Lorie Huston, DVM

goodbye-lorieBeing that I am heavily involved in the Cat Writers’ Association (CWA) and in light of the fact our annual conference will be held at the end of this month, it is not unusual to get a lot of email blasts this time of year about one thing or another. So, when I saw a message in my inbox from CWA Vice President, Dusty Rainbolt on Tuesday, I barely glanced at the subject heading and just opened it, expecting to see something about the conference. Instead, I, along with the whole CWA membership, got the completely unexpected news that Lorie Huston, DVM,  and our CWA President was in the hospital, critically ill due to complications from liver failure. The Writing Process Blog Tour – A Behind the Scenes Sneak Peak with Cat Loving Lady, Deb Barnes

Wow – thanks to my dear friend, the wildly creative and talented Angie Bailey of the award-winning blog, Catladyland,  and Texts from Mittens, I am about to go on tour! No, not the kind of tour like musicians who make gobs of money while wearing outlandish costumes (unless you count my penchant for wearing leopard ears) on stage and who make outrageous demands for things like green M&M’s only in their dressing room. This is the kind of tour where I make no money whatsoever, I eat whatever is put in front of me, whether I like it or not, and I wear old and baggy sweat pants (i.e., comfortable) with the hem coming undone. Yes, I have been invited to go on the Writing Process Blog Tour that has been making the rounds of late!

This is what I look like on tour – comfortable clothes and unkempt hair with my feline roadies at my side helping me every step of the way. Sigh…the life of a cat writer is very glamorous indeed… (Archive photo from 2010)

It’s pretty easy in premise – after a writer accepts the invitation to join the tour, they answer 4 set questions about, yes, you guessed it, their blog writing process, then when they are done, they invite two other people to join the tour who will write about their blog writing process at some point! So, go grab a cup of coffee and a cat for your lap. My tour is about to begin – and don’t worry – there is no admission charge and I won’t be trashing any hotel rooms after the tour either! Read more
