Please Judge a Book by its Cover

Ta Da! The book cover unveiled for The Chronicles of  Zee & Zoey!

I know we’ve all been brought up with the mindset that we shouldn’t “judge a book by its cover,” and I usually agree with that sentiment. However, when it comes to the book cover design that we have finally chosen for Zee & Zoey’s book, “The Chronicles of Zee & Zoey – a Journey of the Extraordinarily Ordinary,” I must say I wholeheartedly encourage you to judge this book by its cover! An Itsy Bitsy Memory

When Deb handed me her book last summer in June, hoping it would get me inspired to design a book cover for it, I had no idea what a great journey I was embarking on. Granted, there were no mountains to climb and monsters to fight (but the metaphoric ones, of course), this was rather one of those extraordinarily ordinary experiences, perfectly in tune with the book’s subtitle.

And the journey began with, well… a journey, a real one. I was boarding a plane to go visit my family in Romania for three weeks, so I figured – what better reading material than something light and easy? The story managed to captivate me and I often found myself laughing out loud and reading pieces of it to my family.

No spoiler alert necessary – I won’t be telling you of the book, that’s yours to discover when the time comes.  But I’d like to share a little story that truly impressed us and it so happens that it happened while I was reading the book (but there are no coincidences, right?).

Madalina… the Beauty Behind the Words

In Madalina’s design studio discussing the Zee/Zoey site

By now, you have heard me mention the name Madalina numerous times. Not only is she the enormously talented and gifted graphic designer who helped me create Zee and Zoey’s Chronicle Connection and my book, “The Chronicles of Zee & Zoey – a Journey of the Extraordinarily Ordinary,” but she has become a dear friend of mine, which is a wonderful bonus. When I first met her, it was a business relationship – client and designer. But, as time has gone by and we have spent countless hours in person, through emails, and on the phone perfecting our Zee/Zoey visions, she has become part of our family and we all adore her, both human and feline!

Grab the Camera – the Cat’s Being Cute Again!

What? Too subtle? You’re right, I’ll be back in a second with more lights!!

Hi Everyone! You might not want to admit it, but we all know its true – it’s that time of year when we humans can’t help but involve our pets in the holiday festivities and our over the top, compulsive behaviors. You know what I mean – how many of you have tried to put a Santa hat or blinking reindeer antlers on your dog or cat, hoping to take that quick and blurry photo as they instantly try to take it off?  Or how many of you have a stocking hung for your pet with his or her name lovingly bedazzled on it or buy special toys and gifts for them to open on Hanukkah or Christmas morning? Any of this ringing a bell? Do you buy holiday cards with a pet theme, or do you take the family holiday picture and include the furry gang? Do you sign all your pets’ names on your holiday cards? Are they included as topics in your yearly family newsletter? Maybe you buy them that adorable sweater to wear, ignoring the look of embarrassment and disdain from them as they valiantly struggle to take it off. Or maybe you have a specially themed tree or ornaments devoted to your precious pet/s. Or perhaps it’s that special treat you cook for them – their favorite turkey and giblet dinner, cut in just the right bite sized pieces, served in a cut crystal glass bowl. Read more

Kit & Kraft – How a Chronicle Begins…

Image and quote created and submitted by Crystal Power in tribute to our beloved Kit

Despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary – pictures of Zee and Zoey splashed everywhere ad nauseam – the name of the blog, “Zee & Zoey’s Chronicle Connection,” the title of the book, “The Chronicles of Zee & Zoey – a Journey of the Extraordinarily Ordinary,” Zee and Zoey’s facebook page and facebook fan page, the Zee and Zoey twitter account, the ZeeZoey Partners LLC LinkedIn account, the ZeeZoey Partners LLC I set up, as well as the ZeeZoey Partners corporate logo and monogram that was exclusively designed for them and the ZeeZoey blog photo shoot, the idea for the book and the entire Zee/Zoey concept did not actually begin with Zee and Zoey. What?! How can that be? Read more
