The Ultimate Dream House Remodel for Cat Lovers – Meet Peter Cohen of Trillium Enterprises and His 18 Rescue Cats

Welcome to the stunning home of Peter Cohen – named “Nekko” which is the word for cat in Japanese, inside you will find a cats paradise! Photo courtesy of Santa Barbara Home Builders Trillium Enterprises, INC.

For those of you that frequent my blog, you know I have an affinity for not only cats and writing, but for design and creativity. I love to find the beauty in everyday things and the very premise of the Zee/Zoey brand started with the tagline of their book – finding the extraordinary in the ordinary. As you can well imagine then, when I happened up an article in the Laughing Squid entitled “California Man With 18 Cats Remodels His Home Into An Amazing Feline Playground Paradise,” I had to find this man to learn more about this feline oasis, because well, because he has 18 cats (all of them rescues) and turned his house into an amazing feline playground paradise for them. Let’s be honest people, he had me at the headline… Read more

Mr. Jazz Makes a Visit and Earns a Nomination in the BlogPaws Nose-to-Nose Social Media Awards for Best Pet Blog Post

He may be gone in the physical sense, but there is no doubt in my mind that Mr. Jazz is still with me….

Last night after dinner I was in my office catching up on things – no surprise there. I try to make use of my time as best I can and I was putting together some materials for my upcoming trip I will be taking to the Global Pet Expo in Orlando. I have never been to this event, but since it’s close to home and won’t break the bank, I thought it would be a great opportunity to meet some new people, catch up with friends, and learn about all the coolest cat products and trends that are on the market to share on Zee & Zoey’s blog. Dan will be coming with me for the first time and it will be nice to venture out with him instead of leaving him home with the cats. My oldest son who turns 30 today (sigh) will be cat-sitting, so there you have it.

What made last night more unique was my visitor. Please don’t think I’m crazy, but ever since Mr. Jazz crossed the Rainbow Bridge last August, sometimes I see him in the house. Mostly it’s when I’m on the couch watching TV – I will catch a glimpse of him down the hallway as if he’s getting ready to lie on my chest like he had done a thousand times before, and sometimes I feel him lying on top of my legs in the bedroom at night. Combating the Groundhog Day of Life to Help Promote Inner Peace, Health, and Happiness for You and Your Cats

Groundhog day

“I Got You Babe.” Remember how that song played every morning as the alarm sounded at 6:00 a.m. on the movie Groundhog Day and Bill Murray’s character found himself repeating the exact same day over and over? I think in life as we move from one day to the next often we get so settled and stuck in the daily routines of our life, that it seems like we are living the same day over again, even though in reality we are not. Zee & Zoey’s Spay/Neuter Series – Making Sense of Cat Overpopulation When the Numbers Don’t Add Up

If an unaltered male and female cat procreate, the one litter of kittens they have can lead to nearly 5000 more kittens in a 7 year time span

In order to help make a significant dent in cat overpopulation, a basic course in cat math and procreation is needed.

We live in a sound bite, technological world where Google and social media is our go-to resource for everything under the sun. We have a tendency to believe what we read or hear and the more outrageous the headline, tweet, or status update, the better. Perfect example – the headline that keeps re-circulating in mainstream media over and over – that cats are responsible for killing billions of birds a year. The problem? The facts are misconstrued and outdated, serving as a dangerous trend between theoretical probability and realistic reporting as to what cats actually are, or are not capable of doing. This continues to make it an uphill battle in our society to educate people about theory versus reality when it comes to the subjects of cat conception, cat overpopulation, and the effectiveness of spay/neuter.  Read more
