Mia, you come home right now young lady...

There’s no denying it, the weather has been quite temperamental lately. Hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, droughts, fires, and tornados have all made an appearance somewhere across the states in the past few months. The other night I was watching TV and the local news station interrupted broadcasting to let me know there was a tornado warning in effect from 9:15 pm until 10:45 pm. They interrupted again to let me know the warning was extended to 6:00 am… talk about going to bed with a strong sense of foreboding and dread.

Luckily I woke up to find the house was safe and secure, but it got me to thinking about preparing for these events. Some of them we are given warning and we can plan, others, like an earthquake, often come out of nowhere… This got me thinking about my cats, and I realized that on the very rare occasion when Dan and I travel for an overnight event together and we require a cat-sitter, we (I) prepare for the occasion as if a natural disaster is about to occur. Because we have such nice weather all year round, we never have a shortage of guests dropping by the house to visit the Zee and Zoey gang. Here is just a typical day in paradise…

Over the years, Dan has taken literally hundreds of stunning pictures of the cats – all of them so beautiful that it would be impossible to pick a favorite. Each time that I think he can’t possibly outdo himself, he proves me wrong with something so amazing that it takes my breath away.

In a moment captured in time, Dan photographed the cats from our backyard, as they were inside looking out the window. Because they were looking at some sort of wildlife, they were perfectly still and completely transfixed on the scene before them, absolutely oblivious to Dan and the camera. This allowed all of them to have their eyes completely open in full, wide-eyed fascination. But what really made the photo, was the effect that occurred because of the screen in the window. The photo literally looks like some days gone by oil painting that the artist Rembrandt would have created. I can just picture driving through the mountains in some small town in the New England area and stopping the car to poke around at one of those charming antique stores that are over-stuffed with treasures of some past life. I picture a painting like this to be in a shop like that. I know I can’t pick a favorite, but this sure would be at the top of my list…

Sure, we have our moments of stepping in hacked up hairballs, hissy fits, and shredded furniture in our house. But, for the most part, our little feline family really is something inspired out of a Disney movie! We literally have an entire cast of characters – each with their own charming and unique personalities, not unlike Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs…. oh dear, now I’ve gone and got myself thinking!! Anyhow, here’s our next installment of our “Tuesday Teasers,” as we videograph our fun-filled gang of four legged friends to a playful and whimsical music score!!
