Wordless Wednesday – From The Outside Looking In…

Over the years, Dan has taken literally hundreds of stunning pictures of the cats – all of them so beautiful that it would be impossible to pick a favorite. Each time that I think he can’t possibly outdo himself, he proves me wrong with something so amazing that it takes my breath away.

In a moment captured in time, Dan photographed the cats from our backyard, as they were inside looking out the window. Because they were looking at some sort of wildlife, they were perfectly still and completely transfixed on the scene before them, absolutely oblivious to Dan and the camera. This allowed all of them to have their eyes completely open in full, wide-eyed fascination. But what really made the photo, was the effect that occurred because of the screen in the window. The photo literally looks like some days gone by oil painting that the artist Rembrandt would have created. I can just picture driving through the mountains in some small town in the New England area and stopping the car to poke around at one of those charming antique stores that are over-stuffed with treasures of some past life. I picture a painting like this to be in a shop like that. I know I can’t pick a favorite, but this sure would be at the top of my list…

  2. Carolyn says:

I thought it was a painting! Truly stunning. I think Dan should be a peripatetic cat photographer. He is so talented. Can I book him? lol xox

  3. Cheysuli says:

That is amazing. The Woman thought it was photoshopped before she read your explanation. How lovely is that?!

    • Deb says:

Thank you Chey – I agree with you – it is one of the most amazing photos I have ever seen. I really think I need to buy a beautiful antique looking frame for it…

  4. Marg says:

That sure is a gorgeous picture. It is really fun t o capture the cats while they have their attention on something interesting stuff. It is really hard to do too. Take carel

    • Deb says:

Thank you Marg – it really was a once in a life time opportunity that Dan was presented with! I am so thrilled he was able to capture it on film like that. He has a whole series of them, but this was one of my favorites! xoxo

  5. Tammy says:

Wow! What a gorgeous shot! I really thought it was a painting until I read your commentary! Amazing!

    • Deb says:

I think what made the shot look even more like an old painting, Tammy, was the fact that the screen was splattered with little bits of white paint from when we were painting trim years ago… really just made the image all the more a portrait!

  6. Mesmerizing! Some of the prettiest photos I have of my very first cat were taken from outside, too, with a pretty lace curtain framing her. Something about the screen so softens a photo and makes it look like a painting, yes…

  7. This shot would make a stunning greeting card with a mat and frame. What I love best is the intelligent focus on their faces. Deb, I’m late to the blog hop again. I must remember to do Wordless Wednesday next week!

    • Deb says:

Layla, you are such a nut!! I’m going to start emailing you on Tuesday nights to remind you!! Thank you for the compliment on the photo – I completely agree – the photo is spectacular and really would make a gorgeous card. Their focus really was amazing – not one cat blinked in the entire series that Dan took, they were that intent at the subject at hand.

  8. Tucker's Mom says:

Completely understand why it’s one of your favorites! Just gorgeous!

  9. Prudence says:

Lovely! What beautiful kitties, and we love the photo effects!

  10. Kristin G. says:

Absolutely gorgeous! It does look like a painting, and your cats are stunning!

  11. meowmeowmans says:

Lovely! The effect caused by the screen is fabulous, and it almost goes without saying that your cats are beautiful! 🙂

    • Deb says:

Thank you meowmeowmans – what a sweet comment! And you can never say it too much – they like being told they are beautiful! Goodness knows I tell them all day and night long! 🙂

  12. That is really stunning!!! It’s interesting to note that they are not all looking at the same thing,. None of them appear to be looking at the camera though.

    • Deb says:

That is a very interesting observation Julia. I can’t remember what they were looking at – it was either a bird, a squirrel, or another cat. I guess they were all seeing the same thing, but with their own unique perspective!! That is why the world is so subjective – even when looking at the same thing, we all see it differently!

  13. Overwhelmingly beautiful. We need one of those screens here !
Seriously, if you ever make prints…..
This is going on our Pinterest board FOR SURE!

    • Deb says:

Thank you Cherry City Kitties – I am thinking of a line of greeting cards or a calendar – we really do have some lovely pictures and this is one of my favorites!
