Sunday Selfie – Finding the Joy in Simple Moments

Mia and Peanut sharing some cuddle time!

This picture of Mia and Peanut was taken back in 2009. While I certainly had my share of setbacks back then, I often find myself yearning for those days when life seemed simpler. Everything is just so hectic and stressful nowadays. But for a cat, they seize the moment and take the time to relax. Wise lesson that I hope to learn one day…

I hope this Sunday will give you pause to relax. At the very least, I hope these pictures gave you a smile and a bit of happiness in your day!

Wordless Wednesday – Window Dressing with the Cats

BigRedCats

Kizmet, Mia, Rolz, and Zee are very happy to see “Big Red” back on the bed!

It’s that time of year – I dig out the one sweatshirt I own and have to wear socks with my shoes. “Big Red,” our thick and fuzzy red blanket comes out of storage to cover the bed. Yes, it’s our annual cold spell in South Florida and we have to do our best to ward off the chill until it’s back to our typical 70/80 degree temperatures, which should probably be tomorrow if I’m correct. For the cats it means three things – extra snuggling time together, zoomies at night, and OPEN WINDOWS!! Read more

My Cats and Our Shared Water-Cooler Moments

the week begins

The window in the guest bedroom seems to beckon to me to grab the camera each time I walk past it – the cats love to congregate to either soak up the sun, bird watch, or just have a delightful catnap. This is Jazmine, Mia, and Rolz.

I shared some photos of my cats last week for Selfie Sunday in which I elaborated about the downfalls of both my photographic abilities and the capabilities of my camera. Despite the shortcomings, I continue to be drawn to taking pictures of them – quite frankly I’m obsessed with it – but this week I have come to not only accept my limitations, but embrace them, because they are a loving scrapbook come to life of the treasured moments I have shared with them. Happy Autumnal Equinox / First Day of Fall!

AutumnRolz

We don’t get much of an autumn in Florida, but this picture of Rolz taking a stroll near our hibiscus bush really gives the impression of a pretty fall day.

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, Fall (the autumnal equinox) begins on September 23, early in the morning at 4:21 a.m. In technical terms, the autumnal equinox is when the Sun appears to cross the celestial equator from north to south.

In my South Florida terms, it means it will begin to get darker and darker each morning before I leave for work and it will also get darker a lot quicker before I cook dinner when I get home. The temperature will still be in the 90’s, as we don’t get our glorious, gift from God humidity-free temperatures until sometime in November, and we definitely don’t get the beautiful change in leaf color on the trees like our friends up North do.

What does it mean for the cats? Well, honestly, they seem to have internal clocks of their own, because they still know what time to wake me up in the morning before the alarm goes off and they still know what time dinner is! About the only change they will feel is less sunbeam bathing time during the day, which means more snuggle time on the bed instead of near the windows.

It’s almost time for all day kitty snuggling on the bed!

downloadHave a great one all – and as a side note – how many of you remember the Farmer’s Almanac? When I was growing up, it was a big part of my life. We lived in a very rural town on the east shore of Lake Ontario in New York and did a lot of gardening to sustain ourselves. The almanac helped us to gauge how long our growing season would be and if I remember correctly, it was always pretty accurate. How times have changed… now everything we need to know is just a keyboard click away…instantly updated as circumstances warrant…

You Can Pet Me, Just Don’t Touch Me – So Says the Cat

Zoey and her son, Rolz. This was back in 2009 – to this day, they continue to share a special bond.

There’s been a lot of sadness of late – cats being sick, cats unexpectedly leaving us, or remembering cats that left us in days, weeks, or years past. Through all the community conversation and support, one message rang that has rang loud and clear, is that we all love our cats and we all shower them with as many hugs, snuggles, and cuddles as we can on a daily basis.  Read more
