Guess what folks, try as we might, we can’t control the world, so why not just focus on the life you are blessed to have around you…

I don’t do it nearly enough but this past weekend was a serious exercise in unplugging myself from all things technological. I found my brain being surrounded by a dizzying array of unhealthy karma and so boom, just like that, I walked away. I picked up an Anne Rice novel I had gotten for Christmas to read (The Wolf Gift) and I also situated myself with a red pen to start the editing process with the rough draft of my book. Read more

This was a photo of Jazmine (L) taken at the Global Pet Expo and we immediately thought she was a Maine Coon like our handsome boy, Zee (R).

When Dan and I adopted Jazmine she was a former feral kitten and her paperwork coined her as a “DLH,” meaning that whoever rescued her determined her to be a domestic long-haired cat of mixed ancestry. Since her parentage is unknown, that is a fair assessment, but based on our own Maine Coon, Zee, we thought she was also a Maine Coon. In light of all that has been going on lately, I could easily be hired for an acting role on the Walking Dead without the need to audition… Even with makeup on I look like a Zombie and despite that I know I am supposed to be taking care of myself, that falls into the category of “easier said than done.” My emotional state is beyond fragile, so when I found out Zee and Zoey’s blog had been nominated for two Pettie Awards, you can only imagine that I broke down in a flood of humble gratitude for all of you that have supported us along the way…

We have been nominated for Best Designed Blog which we always appreciate – we want our stunning kitty photographs, charming graphics, and compelling writing to entertain you each and every time you visit our blog and we are happy to know that we have achieved that goal since you supported us in that category!

Rolz says think what you want, but he knows he’s the creative genius at Zee and Zoey’s!

But even more touching is the nomination for Best Blog Post for the post we did to honor the passing of our beloved Mr. Jazz who went to the Rainbow Bridge on August 28th, 2013, entitled “A Tribute to Mr. Jazz – The Dignity of Life and Death and Finding the Beauty in Letting Go.”

The outpouring of love and support you all shared with us during that difficult time will never be forgotten and it is especially poignant as we struggle to come to terms with the unexpected loss of Harley a couple of weeks ago.  As with Jazz, the support and friendship you have given us to help ease the pain as we mourn Harley’s passing has been overwhelming and it makes this Pettie nomination all the more special to us because win or lose, we know what true friendship is and we are forever grateful to have all of you in our lives.

Sure, the human thinks she is responsible for the stellar writing at Zee and Zoey’s but Peanut and Mia spill the beans and show everyone who’s really running the show… (Side note – this picture is from 2012 and if you look closely, that is a picture of Harley on the computer screen)

I think by now it’s been made more than abundantly clear that the cats in my house are spoiled… well, not necessarily spoiled… I would say well-loved. But guess what… in our house even the cat toys are spoiled! Just take a look to see what I mean!

Yup… courtesy of our sweet Jazmine, she has made sure that her beloved fuzzy ball has a nice and cozy spot to nap on! Doesn’t every cat toy deserve its own cat bed to nap in?

There is no doubt the loss of a pet is heartbreaking under any circumstances, but when the loss of a pet comes without warning, the grieving process is unspeakably difficult to convey and bear. Unlike with Mr. Jazz whereby Dan and I were given precious months to say goodbye to him and prepare ourselves for the inevitable, when it came to crossing Harley to the Bridge last week, we were given but a few brief minutes. It was not a beautiful Hallmark moment and there was no pretty pink bow to tie up the loose ends in a poignant and touching package so that we could put our minds at ease as we remembered her.
