April Showers …

Sigh...

… bring May flowers.  Being a fan of flowers (and the bees that hide in them) I like this rhyme.  In theory.  In reality, I hate it.  I hate rain.  Rainy days mean that I have to stay in all day, since the humans don’t like to get wet.  Without them, I can’t go outside.  Rain also ruins the view from my loft.  On sunny days there’s plenty of things to look at through every window in the house, like squirrels and birds, but rain seems to prevent these creatures from venturing out.  Granted, the birds will be back in droves when the rain stops, but until then BLAH!  Maybe I should have titled this blog “Rain Rain Go Away…” and left the second line off.  Don’t bother coming back! My Oldest Friend

The month of February was very stormy in Boston, and we got a lot of snow.  By a lot I mean that it snowed for days, pretty much without stopping.  I’m not sure exactly how much a lot is because I don’t know how to count snow.

I do know how to count, and I’ve known how to for a long time.  I can count numbers as high as I need to- I just never learned how to count snow.  It’s gone now, anyway; there’s zero snow left.

Happy Birthday to Me…

I’m a lot older today than I was when my last blog was published.  As you may already know, my sisters, brother and I all turned 2 years old on February 12.  Here is a picture of some of my birthday gifts:

They’re called super-balls, but I’m not sure why.  What these animals do is bounce around on the floor for awhile, followed by a slow, meandering roll… While I truly appreciate and love my gift (and my human gift-givers), I’m not sure how I feel about the super-balls themselves.  They are fun to play with for the most part, and I admit that I enjoy chasing them around the kitchen and pawing at them to make them move faster.  Read more

Happy Birthday My Precious Little Ones!

Left to Right – Mia, Rolz, and Peanut

When Zoey gave birth to her kittens two years ago today, I knew my life would change, but I did not realize how much. Dan and I already had a houseful of cats that we loved and spoiled very much – Jazz, our elder Ragdoll, Harley our Tortie, Zee, our Maine Coon and father of the kittens, and Zoey, our Bengal and proud Mama of these four perfect and beautiful kittens. We were quite excited about the birth and figured we would keep one of the kittens and give the rest away. Well, we fell in love with them so quickly and with such possessiveness, that we ended up keeping three of them – Mia, Peanut, and Rolz – with the fourth one, Zeuss, going to a dear friend in Boston.

Having had cats my whole life, I was not prepared for the intensity of how the dynamic in our house would change – somehow these kittens were different than all the others I had known. Maybe it is because Zee and Zoey themselves are so unique and special, but all I know is that I am grateful for everyday Dan and I have with them. Our house is filled with such love and simple joy by having them around and they are such an integral and important part of our family. They humor us, they teach us lessons, and they give us love in return. All I can say is Happy Birthday my dear, sweet, kittens. I love you so much and look forward to all the coming year is certain to bring!

A special Happy Birthday to Zeuss as well – we love and miss you very much!

I Got Into a Fight…

Late Tuesday afternoon, I was lounging in my kitchen on my sideways couch.  I had already been outside for a run around, and was contemplating how I was going to spend my Tuesday evening.  Such thinking makes me sleepy, so I was sluggishly drifting off to sleep.

Without warning the back door opened.  The humans are often coming and going, so that sound didn’t startle me and I decided that I wasn’t going to look up.  I listened as I heard a human come into my kitchen and close the door behind them.  I counted the seconds, awaiting the inevitable scratch behind my ears.  (NO ONE walks by the sideways couch without petting me.  It’s like a rule.)  But no human touch came.  A few more seconds passed, and I decided to lift my head up and look around.

I didn’t like who I saw.  Or rather, what I saw.

The vacuum clearer is the most irritating appliance that I’ve ever come across.  It’s sneaky and has a total disregard for anyone and everyone around it.  The vacuum can sneak into your personal space almost without a sound, sitting quietly until it suddenly erupts with noise and rolls around the house screeching at the top of it’s lungs. The humans seem to tolerate this noise, but clearly they don’t trust the vacuum, since one of them always follows the vac around the house closely when it’s being loud.  Unfortunately the humans don’t do anything to stop the vacuum from making it’s rounds.
