October 29, 2011 – Author Deborah Barnes of  The Chronicles of Zee & Zoey – A Journey of the Extraordinarily Ordinary, is proud to announce that the Cat Writers’ Association Committee has approved her application for Professional Membership to the Cat Writers Association, effective immediately.  Established in 1992, The Cat Writers’ Association, Inc. (CWA) is an organization of professionals writing, publishing and broadcasting about cats. Members include writers, editors, publishers, artists, public relations specialists, broadcasters and others.  The 18th Annual Cat Writers Conference will be held this November 17 -19th in White Plains, NY , of which Deborah will be attending.

I am so excited to be guest posting on Mason Canyon’s Book Review Site, “Thoughts in Progress” today, but I have to admit it was a bit overwhelming at first. When I asked her what the topic should be about and what the word length should be, she said, “Whatever you want and as long as you want.”  Oh boy… she did realize she was talking to a perennially wordy author, right?

Once I got over the concern of a lack of guidelines, I really began to enjoy the process of writing for a new audience and I decided the best topic for me to introduce myself to new readers, was “How Does One Become an Author?” I hope you will all take the time to drop by Mason’s site to read the post. In the world of independent self-publishing, there are numerous ways an author can manage the inventory and shipping of a book. To name a few – one can elect to Print on Demand or ship trough a warehouse and distribution fulfillment center. Some books are strictly electronic in format and some are sold directly through Amazon. Then there are those that take on the task from start to finish in the old fashioned brick and motor method, called putting your inventory in your spare bedroom or garage and packing and shipping them yourself with a lot of blood, sweat, and tears as daily trips are made to the post office. Sure, we have our moments of stepping in hacked up hairballs, hissy fits, and shredded furniture in our house. But, for the most part, our little feline family really is something inspired out of a Disney movie! We literally have an entire cast of characters – each with their own charming and unique personalities, not unlike Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs…. oh dear, now I’ve gone and got myself thinking!!
