Cats and the Grieving Process – Reconciling the Loss of Harley and a Special Visit from Mr. Jazz

Harley-(2)There is no doubt the loss of a pet is heartbreaking under any circumstances, but when the loss of a pet comes without warning, the grieving process is unspeakably difficult to convey and bear. Unlike with Mr. Jazz whereby Dan and I were given precious months to say goodbye to him and prepare ourselves for the inevitable, when it came to crossing Harley to the Bridge last week, we were given but a few brief minutes. It was not a beautiful Hallmark moment and there was no pretty pink bow to tie up the loose ends in a poignant and touching package so that we could put our minds at ease as we remembered her. Kizmet2BDToday is a very special day in our household – not only is it the day we celebrate the independence of our country, but it is the day we say Happy 2nd Birthday to our sweetie-pie, Kizmet!! We honestly don’t know if July 4th truly is his birthday since he was found abandoned on the side of the road as a tiny kitten, but based on his extraordinary personality we would wager a strong bet it is accurate and so it only seems fitting! Best-Friend Cats, Kizmet and Jazmine, Share a Similar First Time Outdoor Adventure!

Rolz checks out the surroundings… April showers, let alone May flowers have both been scarce in our backyard but as long as he can spot a lizard or two, all is good in his world!

They say April showers bring May flowers, but with June almost upon us, we have not had too much rain to speak of here in South Florida and our backyard does not have as many profuse blooms as we normally have at this time as a result. For the kitties, none of that matters. Going outside is the biggest treat we can give them and that reminded me of the first time we let Jazmine out a couple of months ago to experience her first backyard outdoor adventure. The experience was so similar to the first time we took her best friend buddy, Kizmet, outside for the first time that I thought it would be fun to share a photo montage of what it was like for the both of them for this Caturday’s edition at Zee and Zoey’s. Kizmet’s pictures are from December, 2013 and Jazmine’s are from March, 2014. Read more

Wordless Wednesday – The Symmetrical Mirror Images of Multi-Cats

While it was very nice to have a three-day weekend, the past several days have been emotionally tiring for me so I am quite happy to have a Wordless Wednesday upon us to share LOTS of great kitty pictures without having to worry about writing too may words! I was browsing through some of my pictures for inspiration and noticed a theme that fascinated me that I thought I would share – the symmetrical artistry that can sometimes happen as a result of having multi-cats hanging out together and the stunning mirror images they provide. These are some of my favorite archive examples and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! Happy Wednesday all and have a great day! Read more

Wordless Wednesday – Kizmet Defies the Logic of Time…

DSC_0743-Edit

Here is Kizmet from just a few weeks ago. Despite that Kizmet is an old soul, he is actually still a young cat and he and Jazmine are only a year and a few months apart in age.

With each day that goes by, it seems that time is passing quicker and quicker. I say this because in the process of writing Mr. Jazz’s story for my newest book, I am forced to reminisce and go down memory lane with more frequency as I revisit how each cat in my life came to be. It was an odd revelation – especially with Kizmet. Even though we only got him a year and a half ago, time has deluded me into thinking he has been part of our family forever because each and every day has become one big, fleeting, blurry passage of time that has gone by in the blink of an eye.

I truly don’t know where the days are going but I guess having Jazmine around has caused me to reflect about Kizmet even more because they are such good friends. This caused me to take another trip down memory lane as I spent some time looking at pictures of him when we first got him… Shocking news, but he actually was a tiny little kitten at one time! See for yourself as I share some of my favorite pictures of him today for Wordless Wednesday and a bonus video that was taken of him a couple of nights after I brought him home from Pet Supermarket!
