Zee & Zoey’s Spay/Neuter Series – The Facts of Life: The 101’s of Kittens and Conception

Kittens can safely be spayed or neutered at 4 months old to help prevent accidental pregnancies and for their health and well-being.

Kittens are adorable, but they are also powerful procreating machines if not spayed or neutered!

While I consider Zee & Zoey’s kittens one of the biggest blessings of my life, it is also because of them that I have learned so much about the subject of spay/neuter and become such an advocate to educate people on the importance of the procedure for not only reducing cat over population on the streets and in shelters, but for the overall health and behavioral benefits to your cat. It just so happens that February is National Spay/Neuter month, so I thought what a better time than now to run a month long  series of informative posts on the subject to help promote the cause. The Cat Owner’s Survival Guide – Wicker Furniture Edition

Wheee!!! Cats will be cats!! (Image from Cats Fine Arts)

If you are a cat guardian, you have certain issues you have to face, such as irreplaceable family heirlooms and collectibles. Basically, what you have to ask yourself, is do you want to keep them safe within your possession to pass on to future generations, or do you want them to be knocked off wherever you have them on display to be smashed into a kaleidoscope horror of a million pieces of whatever fragile material they are made of onto the floor the split second your cat becomes distracted by a flying moth? The Purr-fect Litter Box for Your Cat – Review of the NVR Miss Litterbox

Litter Box in useWhen I first started blogging in 2010, it was all about telling the story of my life with my cats. I had not remotely entertained the thought I would be discussing a subject so unseemly as litter boxes, but it turns out when you have cats, they go paw in paw and the topic is unavoidable.

NVR Miss Litterbox

No one knows this more than the folks at NVR Miss Litterbox  so when they reached out and asked if I wouldn’t mind testing out the NVR Miss Litterbox for review, how could I possibly turn the opportunity down with my feline focus group of seven extremely adept litter users? I don’t know about your house, but in mine, using the litter box is something akin to an Olympic event and all my cats strive to win a gold medal each time they go. Could NVR Miss stand up to the challenge of my active and enthusiastic multi-cat gang? Read more

Breaking News… Peace Restored as TICA Announces Top Five Registered Cat Breeds in the World

The Reigning Queen and World Champion - our Wildly Inspired Miss Zoey

Nothing against Persians or The Cat Fanciers Association (CFA). Honest. Persians are a gorgeous breed of cats and the CFA is quite a refutable and wonderful organization.

However, several weeks ago when they announced their Top Five List of Registered Cats for 2010, all heck broke lose in our house as Zoey threw a HUGE kitty fit, because not only was the Bengal NOT the number one registered breed, they didn’t even make the top 5 list. Hmmpff. The world literally spun off its axis and pigs began to fly.

Well, thanks to The International Cat Association (TICA), peace is blessedly restored in our household and the earth can continue to revolve around its axis without further disruption. They have just released their 2010 list of the Top Five Registered Cats in the world (thank you Catster) and the Bengal has made top billing as THE NUMBER ONE REGISTERED BREED! Please, so there is no confusion, let me say it again, the Bengal is the NUMBER ONE REGISTERED BREED around the world! So, take that, all of you beautiful, gorgeous, and delightfully personable Persians!

Number two on the list is none other than the Ragdoll (number 4 on the CFA list), and number three, the lovable Maine Coon (number 2 on the CFA list), of which Mr. Jazz and Zee thank the TICA for respectively. Number four is the Savannah and number five is the Sphynx, which was also the number five cat on the CFA list. Now, for me, I love ALL cats and think they all have unique beauty, traits, and personalities that would entitle each and every one of them to be number one on the list. But, for those of us who have had to live with Zoey the past few weeks with all her sour grapes and pouting, we emit a heavy sigh of relief as once again, Queen Zoey reigns and she may rule the law of the land with her beautiful and dainty leopard spotted paws.

Mews-Worthy Mention – CFA Announce Top 5 Breeds to Mixed Reviews…

Zoey in her full wrath....

Hmmmpfff…  As seen on the catster blog, The Cat Fancier’s Association (CFA) has just come out with its 2010 Top 5 List as of registered cat breeds and the results have caused a bit of a riff in our feline family with considerable disagreement and temper tantrums. Needless to say, I am writing this post on my own as Zoey has just slammed the door and shut herself in the bedroom. She won’t even let me use our official Zee/Zoey “Mews-Worthy” picture in this post. First discrepancy would be point number one – leading the list as the reigning champion since the 1970’s is the Persian. Some kind of nonsense about their obvious beauty, good personality, and love of people…  Read more
