A Total Eclipse 16th Birthday for Zoey!

Considering that our Zoey, with her meows and yowls that can probably be heard in outer space, they are THAT PIERCINGLY LOUD, it’s no surprise her 16th birthday would fall on a spectacular natural phenomenon: the total eclipse of the sun.

Zoey’s special day will start at 5:30 a.m. with her regularly scheduled breakfast. For the total solar eclipse, its day will begin over the South Pacific Ocean. Weather permitting, the first location in continental North America to experience totality is Mexico’s Pacific coast at around 11:07 a.m. PDT. The eclipse path continues from Mexico, entering the United States in Texas, and traveling through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Small parts of Tennessee and Michigan will also experience the total solar eclipse. The eclipse will enter Canada in Southern Ontario, and continue through Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Cape Breton. It will exit continental North America on the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland, Canada, at 5:16 p.m. NDT.

Since we live in South Florida, we won’t see the total eclipse, but we could see a partial one. Either way, Zoey won’t care. She tends to nap most of the day and as long as she gets her three meals, plus treats, all is good. Unfortunately, it’s not likely our pretty girl will ever see a total solar eclipse in her lifetime. But for those tracking the phenomenon, the next total solar eclipse will be in 2026. It will mostly pass over the Arctic Ocean, with some visibility in Greenland, Iceland, Portugal, and northern Spain.

This will be Zoey during the total eclipse. Or any eclipse for that matter.

In 2027, a total solar eclipse will be visible in Spain and parts of northern Africa. The next total solar eclipse visible from North America will be in 2033, but only over Alaska. Then, in 2044, a total solar eclipse will cross Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, parts of Canada, and Greenland. The next total solar eclipse to cross the continental U.S. coast-to-coast will occur in 2045. The path of totality for that eclipse will cut through California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.

If you’re able to see the total eclipse from where you are, stay safe! That’s it! Happy Birthday, Zoey!! We love you so much!
