It’s Caturday – From Boston to Amsterdam!!

Editors Note: Since we last visited Zeuss in Boston a few weeks ago, he was primarily a solitary cat in a human world. Well, he is so excited to say, that has all changed and he decided to share his story with us! As always, I love a guest post from my favorite Boston kitty!

Zeuss and his human, Sean, enjoying some outside time!

Throughout my life most of my friends have been human.  Admittedly, I’ve become fond of a few canines, but for the most part dogs don’t like to keep in touch.  Humans, on the other hand, are so easy to bond with. They play with me when I want to play, pet me when I rub up on them, and pretty much shower me with attention when I’m in their presence.  Humans just “get” me!  And I “get” them.

It had never seemed odd to me that I didn’t have any feline acquaintances. Truthfully, I haven’t met many other cats face-to-face.  Ever since leaving my Florida birth home- a home that was and is full of cats- I’ve only come in contact with a handful.  And it’s possible that I wasn’t on my best behavior on those few occasions, which in turn led my humans to believe that I possibly didn’t like making friends with other cats. That was not the case, of course, so I recently took some steps to change the humans’ minds.

Shadow

This is my friend Shadow, who I’ve known now for about three months. Shadow is a male indoor cat who lives two houses down, and his humans allow him to keep his litter box outside.  Sometimes Shadow happens to be outside at the same time as me, and when we notice each other we meet by the fence and hang out.  Shadow doesn’t have much to say usually, but he seems to enjoy my company and I enjoy his.

Once I had established that I was capable of befriending other cats, the humans decided to help me meet another.

I’d like everyone to meet my newest feline friend, Amsterdam.

Introducing Amsterdam!

Amsterdam is a female cat that belongs to Sarah, one of my many human friends.  Amsterdam needed a place to stay for a night or two, and my humans decided that she should stay with us.  When they ran this idea by me, I agreed.

Thus Amsterdam came to stay with me for a few days.  Since she was on the shy side and a bit older than me, it was decided that Amsterdam would spend her time primarily in one of the bedrooms and that she and I would only spend time together while supervised.

During our visits together, Amsterdam’s shyness was no match for my friendly persistence and she eventually decided that she liked me!

True, Amsterdam is still a bit timid at times, but we’ve bonded.  She’s decided to stay with us for a little while longer because she’s enjoying her time here.  I’m going to remain an eager host, and I’m expecting that by next week she’ll have even stopped hissing at me.

Zeuss is ever diligent in his pursuit of friendship with Amsterdam!

  1. I think most cats are better off with friends. Happy Caturday!

  2. Marg says:

Zuess, looks like Amsterdam has you number and is teaching you a thing or two. In other words, leave her alone. But we are glad you don’t fight back. That wouldn’t be good.
Any more news about the cats that were at the Loews Hotel??

    • Deb says:

Marg – I think Zeuss is actually being quite the gentleman and I am happy to see he has a friend! As far as Loews, nothing new with the cats – the trapping continues. But, just a couple of days ago, an employee who had been with the company for 12 years was fired for feeding one of the cats. She is terrified to speak out about it and all of the other employees are fearful to speak as well, because their jobs will be in jeopardy… It is so sad. We are trying so hard to get the media to pick the story up without a biased slant towards the hotel.

  3. Brian says:

Zeuss and Amsterdam are very cool indeed! I now save all my hisses for Loews!

    • Deb says:

Thank you Brian!! We hereby appoint you Ambassador of Hissdom on behalf of all kitties everywhere who are spitting mad at Loews!!!! And yes, Zeuss and Amsterdam are very cool! I think Zeuss may have a tiny crush on her!

  4. Zeuss you can tell you were raised by your human Mama Deb because you are so loving and intelligent!!! I think that Amsterdam has a crush on you!!!!

What a handsome boy you are!
But….I don’t want anyone to whack you in your face 🙁
    You are a GOOD BOY!
    xoxoxo

    • Deb says:

Awww… thanks Caren – that is so sweet!! I agree – I think Zeuss is being a very good boy and quite charming! Little Miss Amsterdam does not seem to realize it is his house and not the other way around!! xoxo

  5. Deb I am so excited to discover your wonderful blog. I will be buying your book! So excited for you!

    • Deb says:

Thank you Molly – what a wonderful organization you have founded – I so look forward to meeting you at BlogPaws and wish you all the best in your endeavors. P.S. I noticed you are friends with BZTAT – I adore her!!

  6. Mowzers, Zeuss! You’re sooo much nicer to visitors than Allie is! She growls and hisses and bangs up against the window when the neighbor cat comes by. Mommy then asks her if she kisses her mother with that mouth and we laff!

  7. Carolyn says:

Awww! for Zeuss it looks like the triumph of hope over experience. I hope we can have an update as their relationship progresses 🙂

  8. Kjelle Bus says:

Loved to read your post <3
I don´t think I would have such a great host like you are !
I guess I would have done a lot of hissing 🙂

  9. Hi Deb,

Zeuss shows a lot of character with his patience and a lot of interest in being with other cats. Glad that last bit was discovered because he looked like he really enjoyed the meetings.

Would be nice to get an update if Zuess visits more cats in the future. I think it’s good to have at least two cats so that they can each have some cat company, don’t you?

Gorgeous blog design and wonderful posts. Looking forward to reading more.
