Zee Shares a Gift of Love
I love Zee. He’s such a sweet, gentle, and kind cat and he demonstrates his love back to me each and every day. He talks to me with his extensive meow vocabulary, he follows me around like a loyal puppy dog, and he patiently waits for me to get up off the couch at night to go to bed so he can cuddle next to me before he eventually settles in to sleep next to my head for the rest of the night. He also brings me gifts at various times of the day, such as stuffed toys dropped at my feet to show his love. But what he did this past Tuesday was so touching, thoughtful, and heartfelt it brought me to tears.
When I leave work at the end of the day, I’ve already had my fill of stress and I just want to be home. But before that can happen, I have to drive in bumper-to-bumper, snail’s pace, rush hour traffic. Needless to say, by the time I get home, I’m even more stressed out and I’m not a happy camper. The first thing I do when I get in the door, besides tripping over seven hungry cats waiting for me to feed them, is walk to my office to drop off my purse. I’ve done it hundreds of times and it’s never been anything to write about. But on this particular day, something caught my eye – I glanced at my desk and saw a stuffed toy sitting on top of the keyboard.
And mind you, this wasn’t just any stuffed toy. This was a leopard-print toy that I had made by hand in a heart shape for Zee many years ago because he’s a cat that loves, loves, loves plush toys. But before I made any assumptions, I called Dan into my office to ask if he had picked the toy up off the floor and put it on the computer. Zee has a tendency to drop his favorite stuffed toys all over the house, so I thought maybe Dan had just found it and put it there. Nope. He did not.
And that’s when I burst into tears. My sweet boy had deliberately brought this toy into my office while I was at work and placed it on top of my keyboard. I think it was his way of letting me know he missed me and wanted me home. He associates me with the computer, so by putting the toy there, he figured it would somehow cause me to materialize. I’m no scientist or behaviorist, but I know what I know. Animals can communicate and that’s exactly what he was doing with me – his little way of letting me know he loves me.
What about you all? Has anything like that ever happened with you and one of your cats?
What a sweet boy! He really does miss you! ? Sometimes I’ll find a kitty toy in my purse or shoe, but I don’t know which of our three cats put it there! Finding these toys in random places always make me smile and feel loved. ❤️???
You’re definitely not “out of sight, out of mind” for Zee. I painted a portrait of my Kublai rolling around on the floor acting silly to make me laugh, looking at me to make sure I saw him, because I was having a bad day. It’s one of my most precious memories of him.
That was a super sweet love message fur sure!
Aw! I would have felt the same way! I’m tearing up just reading about it. Maybe he thought that was a “mommie seed” (it is leopard, after all) and planting it in a spot where you thrive, would grow him a YOU! 🙂
Aww how sweet. None of mine have done that before.
How better to help bring you home, and to share a piece of your love. What a fine fine friend Zee is…. purrs ERin
Thank you so much for sharing this story. It has made my day. It is the sweetest thing I have ever heard of a cat doing. What a blessing! 🙂
That is so sweet. My cats are not that thoughtful.
Oh my what a sweet story, I can so relate. I also look forward to coming home after a stressful day and just to hear them singing their ‘songs of hunger’ makes me happy and the stress of work fades away. I really believe they do think of you while you’re not there. So Zee must have thought of you at that moment and it brought comfort to him to bring you a gift into your space. What a darling he is.
Wonderful “tale” about Zee! Yes, these kinds of things happen from time to time with us. I can remember a time right after we lost one of our babies to FIP very unexpectedly (I believe she contracted it from the vax, and that’s the last time I’ve ever had this administered because of it) when I found a toy she had loved to play with right by the front door. In a multi-cat family, of course, any of them could have left it there, but I’ve always believed that this was her way of letting me know she was still very much present in spirit, to comfort me.
That’s so sweet!

How thoughtful ! That’s so sweet ! Purrs
That is simply paw some! Not only did he want you to know he was thinking of you, but you were able to release your stress because of it as well. The joy of cats and love. It brought tears to my eyes as well to know that there is always something about the universe that teaches us something new every day. Hugs.
Awww bless his little heart. We know of one other kitty who presents gifts to her mom every night. Cats are amazing animals and are very smart. What a sweetie you have there.
How sensitive they are when we need them eh? Happy Selfie Sunday 🙂
What a sweet thing for Zee to do.
That is so sweet of Zee to show his love for you like that.
What a dear and sweet boy who absolutely does love his mommy. My Katie Isabella brings me her babies, Donkey and Floppy Mousie and Floppy Duckie we call them, every night because she loves me. Zee and she could tunnel over and see one another and exchange love tales of their family.
That was done with a lot of tenderness and kindness.
I can see why that brought you to tears…that is just too adorable for words!
