Wordless Wednesday – The Mighty Hunter?

By now, we all know that for Zee, his motto would be “Make Love, Not War.” Zee is the epitome of a sweet, docile, sensitive, loving, caring, affectionate, and giving cat who doesn’t have a mean bone in his big furry body. Quite the opposite. He spooks at the drop of a pin and will quickly allow Zoey to growl the commands in the house. Comfort is the name of his game and he is everyone’s happy-go-lucky best friend.

Once in a blue moon, however, we will see the feral side of Zee emerge and Dan was able to capture this rare moment on camera that you see in the above photo. This wild look was courtesy of a lizard who had not caught on yet that it was about to be a tasty kitty snack… But don’t fret lizard lovers. Once the conquest had begun and Zee reigned victorious with his wiggly prey, Dan gently pried it out of his mouth, complimented Zee on being such a mighty hunter and Zee was back to his care-free and blissfully domestic self!

Blessedly, we are getting closer to the deadline for Pettie voting (July 31st)!! If you would care to vote for us for “Best Designed Blog” or “Best Blog Post” for our interview with Steve Dale on pedigree cat breeding, please click this link. As always, thank you for your support!

  1. I think Zee is like Pug in that he just has to let out the wild side every now and then.

  2. He is very intent in watching his prey.
If we catch a mouse, mum lets us get on with it. She doesn’t like us catching birds so we rarely do, at least not when she is around to see us. If we do, I Flynn who is the deadliest hunter will hold them gently and she is able to take it from me usually unharmed. Eric, who is the laid back tomorrow will do type, will clamp his jaws shut and swear like a trooper and not give up the unfortunate bird without a fight. We act with opposite personalities just to confuse her.

    • Deb says:

Eric and Flynn – it sure sounds like you two are quite the team together!! Since Zee is rarely the hunter, we normally don’t pay much attention to him, so when he does catch a lizard, it is a big deal!! It is the kittens (three years old, but we still call them the kittens) who we have to watch closely. We have squirrels and birds in the yard, but thankfully they don’t come into the fenced area – I can only imagine the horror that would unfold. I have never seen any mice in our yard.

  3. I love his beautiful focused look. The most natural in the world 🙂

  4. Wendy S. says:

Oh Zee, you are the hunter of love and lizards. You’re gorgeous no matter what you do!

  5. Cheysuli says:

Wow! What a great hunter you are to catch a lizard. My friend Daisy says they are rude. Is that true? We don’t have lizards here.

    • Deb says:

Well, Chey… generally lizards are a rather silly creature, as they tend to get caught quite easily and don’t realize that their life is in danger when a cat is stalking them. However, once they are caught, yes, I suppose they do become rude, as they don’t really seem to enjoy having their sun naps disrupted by the jaws of a furry beast. They can also have a large ego – you will see them pump their chests out when sunning, as if to say, “look at how amazing I am,” and that is usually when the cat will pounce on them… as I said, they are not too bright.

  6. Zee looks beautiful whether showing his wild side or serene side. In that first photo, I think he looks a bit “Lynx” like!

  7. CATachresis says:

Oh we know that look!! Sadly for Austin we don’t have too many lizards around here!! xox

    • CATachresis says:

PS Deb, I thought of you when I bought those leopard print bean bags 🙂 Thought you might like them posing in the pictures! xx

      • Deb says:

LOL Carolyn!! You know me only too well! Everyone else is focused on Austin’s high jinx and I am honing in on the leopard print!! They are adorable!!

  8. Zee looks fierce! He probably scared that poor lizard to a stand still! Glad the lizard got away…and that Zee can go back to his roots on ocassion, paw pats, Savannah

  9. Marg says:

We haven’t seen many lizards around here but then maybe we have and the Person doesn’t know it. We do catch rats and mice regularly. We are good hunters here too. That is a great picture of you on the hunt. Have a great evening.

  10. Colby says:

Zee looks like he might be stalking someone or something. I love when the hunter comes out of cats. My favorite is the creep and pounce.

    Happy Wednesday!
    Colby

    • Deb says:

The creep and pounce is a great move to watch, Colby! I also like when they start to wiggle their butts before they pounce!

  11. Zee you are such a mighty hunter-cat! Faraday is very proud to know you!! (and he’ll take any lizards you may have left over)
