What a Typical Summer Day for a Cat is Like in South Florida

Rolz and Mia celebrate the new day with a toasty warm sun puddle to nap in!

For us Zee and Zoey kitties living in South Florida, our typical summer day begins with us eating breakfast and then we retire to the closest sun puddle for a much-needed and glorious all day nap. At some point that nap will be interrupted like clockwork with a thunderstorm that will cause all of our wonderful sunbeams to go away. The storms come at least once a day and typically they will occur at some point between 1:00 pm through 5:00 pm, all depending on what time the human mom is scheduled to leave work for the day and has to drive home in the torrential downpour or if we are planning to grill outside.

Oh look…it’s pouring out now… Mom must be on her way home from work…

These storms often come out of nowhere – sometimes they are a quick and easy sprinkling of rain and go away in five minutes with the sun quickly to reappear and sometimes they can last for hours, accompanied by pitch black skies, loud booming thunder, and flashing bolts of lightning.

No sunshine? No problem…We’ll just nap here on the bed until the storm passes…

While we miss our sun puddles, we make do as best we can so as not to miss any nap time.  The storms used to scare us, but now we know that once they start, eventually they will end. The couch or bed is usually where you will find us snuggled up together in the meantime and once the storm is over we get to celebrate and say hello to Mr. Sunshine again! Or Mrs. Sunshine. Or Ms. Sunshine… we have to admit we don’t know the proper title for the sun!

Whoo Hoo!!! Rolz knows that with a little patience that the rains will end, bringing with it a glorious sun puddle to follow!!

How about your neck of the woods? What is a typical summer day for you? Do you get storms like we do? Are you afraid of them or can you sleep through them like we do?

rain

Hmmm… wonder if it will rain tomorrow?

Sorry you get so many thunderstorms- they are scary. I love the photo of all of you on the bed looking comfy.

  2. Summer storms usually happen after 5 pm and during the night here in Switzerland. It’s a little bit scary, but we feel safe inside with Mum and Dad ! Purrs

  4. That does it! I want to be a cat in South Florida in my next life!!

  5. We live in the suburbs of Chicago and some days we can experience all four seasons in one day.

  6. Kitties Blue says:

Lucky that you all still get sun puddles on rainy days. We have had gloomy day after gloomy day. Normally we won’t get anymore than a sprinkle out of it, which totally frustrates Mom. Rolz looks like he’s in kitty heaven in that last photo. The expression on his face and body position says, “Joy.” XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

M said she remembers those sudden thunder showers from Florida. Everything is so dry around here that we wish we could have one of those quick showers. Wisconsin is looking brown instead of green like it should look. It’s been a pleasure to vote for you and the others we’ve been voting for.

  8. we don’t get quite THAT many storms. but they don’t bother us much. the last one that went through lasted quite a while and did some serious banging around – the kittens started to freak out until they realized that no one else really cared 🙂

  9. Today it’s hotter than heck…so we feel like we’re with you in South Florida!

  10. Flynn says:

I don’t like thunderstorms and hide under the duvet. Mum doesn’t like them either and joins me if dad is not home.

  11. We MOLed about the rain’s timing depending on whether or not you’re planning on grilling outside. That’s exactly what happens here, too! When Ashton has finished the last of her grilled chicken that was stashed away for her, this constitutes an emergency, too!

  12. meowmeowmans says:

Ha ha. Yes, that’s how rain seems to work around here, too. Washing the car also seems to “make” it rain! 🙂

    We’ve been voting everyday!

  13. I don’t like thunderstorms at all. At least we don’t get them as much as you!! I hide UTB 🙂
