Thanks Mr. Groundhog… We Appreciate an Early Spring!
Well, as per the usual tradition of Groundhogs Day on February 2nd, Phil the Groundhog from Punxsutawney, PA is supposed to emerge from his burrow to predict whether or not we will have an early spring or if winter will stretch on until mid-March. The answer is based on hard, scientific evidence, i.e., whether or not he sees his shadow, and it’s a ritual that has been going on since 1887. The gist of it is simple – if he sees his shadow, we are in store for another 6 weeks of winter, if not, time to put the snow shovels away and break the sandals out! Naturally this was of extreme interest to our cats and they ran to the front window and waited with bated breath to see the outcome.
Ummm… hate to break it to you Mia, but that’s not a groundhog… that’s a squirrel. Try again…

Whatever… how about you dude? Are you a groundhog? We need to get our day going… can someone just tell us if Phil saw his shadow or not?
Well guys, that’s not a groundhog either, but it’s Florida so it’s close enough. Anyhow, enough of the suspense… Phil the Pigeon, err… I mean Groundhog didn’t see his shadow so it’s an early spring! Thank goodness… these glorious 80 degree temperatures we’ve been living with lately have been brutal…
This post has been updated from 2014 when Mr. Groundhog did see his shadow, meaning 6 more weeks of winter!
While we look forward to Groundhog Day every year, sometimes the everyday routine of life can seem like the movie Groundhog Day, the same thing being played over and over. We’re so mad at that dumb ol’ groundhog… we want some warm weather too!
Poor little groundhog… he probably wishes he could retire from his job…
ha ha – you should live up here. Spring comes in about 10 more weeks here, regardless of what the groundhog says.,
Oh gosh mariodacat… that sounds brutal!
The first person that complains about how hot it is this summer….you’re gonna be in BIG trouble.
LOL… isn’t that the truth, Toni! Humans… there’s just no pleasing us!

Oh, I feel so bad for you in your 80 degree temps. Id sleep too! We’ll probably stay awake in our ZERO temps. lol
Yeah, yeah… I know Connie Marie! I’m not complaining!
It’s okay. I don’t mind winter now that I’m retired.
Yeah, I think I would feel the same way if I was retired, Moggiepurrs!
Well for those who live in the North, stay warm and keep your pets warm as well. They will be snuggling more now
Yup… lots of snuggling for sure Riverfront Cats!
Too funny – go back to catnapping, sweet kitties!
Have a wonderful week, dear Deb!
We sure will Create With Joy! Hope your week was wonderful as well!
Ugh! We’re so tired of winter! ‘Specially today when we got another 5 inches of snow!
Island Cats… I always find that so funny, because by your name, it sounds like you live in tropical paradise, but you really live in cold temperatures for half the year!!
I go more by when I see the first robin than what the groundhog says around here. Then I know spring is here.
Yup, that is a sure fire sign, Sue! I remember when I lived up North how much I would look forward to seeing my first robin!
Someone needs to set up an umbrella over that groundhog’s hole. That way, he won’t see his shadow when he comes out!
MOL… that sure is a good idea, meowmeowmans!
Being in Florida, we can’t complain too much about the groundhog. His prediction could have a much bigger impact on the rest of the country. But we’re sure ready for the end of our friends having snow all around every day!
We agree with you 100% Sometimes, Cats Herd You!
We go from 30 degrees one day to 70 degrees the next.
Yeah… that was happening to us a couple weeks ago… very hard to know which end is up, Sweet Purrfections!
No low temperatures or snow here, but we are getting day after day of torrential rain for 6 weeks now. That means that mum is only occasionally getting chance to take me for walks, and when we do go we have to paddle through the water. I am blaming Phil for this too.
Oh gosh Flynn… all that rain does sound miserable. This Phil is nothing but a trouble maker!
Oh we LIKE meowmeowmans idea! Especially since we are all buried in the white stuff over here!
philz gonna knead ta make up hiz mind round heer thiz yeer…. as furst de sun waz out N now itz cloudee
we think we will go with cloudee phil ~~~~~~ ♥♥♥
We like the idea of an early spring…but we can’t believe humans rely on a rodent to predict the weather. 😉
We sure hope we get a early spring and lots of warm weather. From da fotos, looks like y’all already have it. 🙂
Luv ya’
Dezi and Lexi
