“When people come to our house, they usually remark on the fuss we make about our cats. It’s true, we spend ridiculous amounts of time talking about the cats, their whiskers and paws, their sleeping habits. We speculate on what they must be thinking. We anthropomorphize them to the limits of absurdity.” At quick glance, you would easily assume that was me talking about my cats. Or you, talking about your cats. But it’s not. This gem actually comes from Stephan Baker, author of the quote for today’s “Feline Quotable Photo Series” that stars two of Zee and Zoey’s kittens at 3 weeks of age that I cannot possibly identify. Camouflage Cats!

Who knew the mood ring made popular in the 1970's was based on the technology of a reptile!

Chameleons are probably most commonly known for their ability to change colors to match the environment they are in. While this isn’t completely true – they actually change color based on light, temperature, and emotional state, it is still quite fascinating and truly impressive. Because  chameleon colors are typically green, brown and gray, they coincidentally often match the background colors of their habitat and that is why it seems they have this magical power.  Read more

The Purr-fect Litter Box for Your Cat – Review of the NVR Miss Litterbox

Litter Box in useWhen I first started blogging in 2010, it was all about telling the story of my life with my cats. I had not remotely entertained the thought I would be discussing a subject so unseemly as litter boxes, but it turns out when you have cats, they go paw in paw and the topic is unavoidable.

NVR Miss Litterbox

No one knows this more than the folks at NVR Miss Litterbox  so when they reached out and asked if I wouldn’t mind testing out the NVR Miss Litterbox for review, how could I possibly turn the opportunity down with my feline focus group of seven extremely adept litter users? I don’t know about your house, but in mine, using the litter box is something akin to an Olympic event and all my cats strive to win a gold medal each time they go. Could NVR Miss stand up to the challenge of my active and enthusiastic multi-cat gang? Read more

An Art Deco Tour With Christine Michaels of Riverfront Cats

Christine feeding two of her Riverfront cats – Leroy and Lion King

For many of you that know me, you know that Christine Michaels of Riverfront Cats, Miami, is a dear friend of mine. She is known in the cat blogosphere for being the caretaker of her twenty or so outdoor community cats in the Riverfront area as well as being the original source that exposed the inhumane trapping of the outdoor cats on the Loews Universal Resort properties in Orlando that spearheaded a nationwide movement to save them. By now, we all know that for Zee, his motto would be “Make Love, Not War.” Zee is the epitome of a sweet, docile, sensitive, loving, caring, affectionate, and giving cat who doesn’t have a mean bone in his big furry body. Quite the opposite. He spooks at the drop of a pin and will quickly allow Zoey to growl the commands in the house. Comfort is the name of his game and he is everyone’s happy-go-lucky best friend.

Once in a blue moon, however, we will see the feral side of Zee emerge and Dan was able to capture this rare moment on camera that you see in the above photo. This wild look was courtesy of a lizard who had not caught on yet that it was about to be a tasty kitty snack… But don’t fret lizard lovers. Once the conquest had begun and Zee reigned victorious with his wiggly prey, Dan gently pried it out of his mouth, complimented Zee on being such a mighty hunter and Zee was back to his care-free and blissfully domestic self!
