This is obviously no surprise to anyone who knows me – you put a leopard print on something and chances are it is in my house. But not everyone shares my affection for the wild side and even I can appreciate something that is more classic and subtle in tone. That is why I was so excited when I saw the line of pet bowls available from ModaPet when I went to the Global Pet Expo in March. Simply put, these bowls are a stunning work of art – they have a clean and elegant design that is saturated in rich, lush colors and are crafted to be both fashionable and functional.

Coming in four different sizes and styles – the 2 cup raised bowl for cats and small dogs, the large 4 cup bowl, the 5 cup bowl, and the 4 cup large raised bowl, I just knew the smaller 2 cup raised bowl would be perfect to review for all of my discriminating cat loving friends. I chose the pesto color to match the earth tones of my kitchen and made arrangements to have one sent to my gang to try out. When it arrived and I took it out of the box, it was just as beautiful as I remembered it.

The color of the pesto bowl is like a beautiful, ripe olive. The best part – the bowls are fade resistant, so you can enjoy the color wash after wash.

Dishwasher safe, the bowls are made of a food grade ABS polymer that is BPA free (BPA stands for bisphenol and is an industrial chemical that can be used when making certain plastics and resins that are often used in containers that store food and beverages). They come in a variety of monochrome colors that are rich, vibrant, and deep in tone and I am certain there is a color to suit just about anyone’s decorating scheme. From vivid jewel tones, to earth tones, to bright and zesty primary colors – each bowl is as beautiful as the next and they are all finished with a gloss to lock in the color, giving it the look of glass or glazed porcelain.

This is all good news for those of us humans who want a bowl for our pets that presents a clean, modern, and classic look in our home, but the best news is actually for our cats because the raised bowl is designed to be an inch or so above the floor which is a healthier way  for them to eat. Elevated feeders can be beneficial to cats because they bring food to a more comfortable eating level for them – especially for older cats that might be arthritic and find it painful to stoop down to floor level to eat. Raised dishes also help prevent vomiting that is often caused by a reflex muscle in the throat that reacts when a pet lifts their head after eating from a level below their stomach.

Besides being elevated, the bowl is also designed to be wide and shallow (about 6” wide) which is important because high sided bowls can cause cats discomfort as their whiskers have to bend to fit in the dish. The bowl also has a non-skid base to keep the bowl from sliding when kitty eats. The base is molded to the dish of the bowl rather than glued to it to ensure that the bowl will not degrade after using the dishwasher several times and I can attest that it is very well made. I can’t say the bowl is cheap – it retails for $14.95, but I don’t think it is overly expensive either. I am quite frugal with my money and I think the price is fair and I would be willing to spend the money on one.
