If You Build it, They Will Come…

Mia is all curled up in a ball on a chair that sits next to my desk chair. It is covered in a sunflower patterned blanket and serves no purpose whatsoever, other than to allow Mia to nap next to me!

Dan and I have recently been renovating my office so that I now have a cozy space that is a beautiful concoction of gorgeous jewel tones in royal blues, hunter greens, blazing golden hues, and rich burgundies.True to my creative nature, I have taken a plethora of colors and themes that one might not traditionally think would compliment one another and created my own eclectic world that is purr-fectly suited to my unique tastes and personality. I have combined the warmth and beauty of sunflowers (I originally came from Upstate New York where these stunning flowers grew along side the road in a glorious infusion of color and I remain in love with their carefree, yet proud stature) with the wild and untamed pattern of leopard print accessories that is my calling card and trademark. The results – a room so rich, warm, inviting, and cozy, that you immediately feel a wonderful calm and happiness when you enter the room. I guess you would call it “Sunflower Safari” for a lack of a better style description!

Zoey sits on the couch - perfectly coordinated with the leopard pillow behind her...

The cats seem to share my feelings because they took up residence in this room immediately, despite that we still have a few more things to do before it is completed and I have never seen them more relaxed or content. And mind you, my cats already had the art of relaxation and contentment down pat…. While form and function do exist – I have my computer, my printer, all my file cabinets and bookshelves, etc., that has clearly taken a backseat in this office, as comfort is the name of the game for my fur-babies who think I have created this soothing and peaceful haven for their own personal habitat. It’s funny – a question was recently asked on facebook by the renowned author and veterinarian, Dr. Marty Becker, as to whether or not people were neglecting their pets by spending too much time on their computers and the Internet. My response to this, as evidenced by the pictures I have provided of my cats, is the proverbial “If the mountain won’t come to Muhammad, Muhammad must go to the mountain.” In my case, seven highly loving and devoted furry little Muhammad’s! And I do mean all seven, all at once!

Zee is fully reclined on top of the couch - this prime real estate spot gives him the ideal vantage to see all the comings and goings of the room at a quick glance!

There is not even a modicum of abandonment by me of my precious babies – One or two of them will be next to the computer as I type away at all hours of the day and night, one cat will napping on my lap, some will be outstretched on the new couch we have in the room, one will be relaxed on the ottoman, and one will be snuggled in a ball on the chair next to me!! We find our own ways to make time to bond and it gives me enormous comfort to be in such a beautiful room surrounded by my beloved feline friends! Neglect my kitties… never!!

Peanut is relaxing on top of the ottoman. Despite that she is a bit too big for the small piece of furniture, she still manages to make herself comfortable!

What a beautiful space you’ve created for yourself! And the kitties, of course, highlight it purrfectly!

Zoey is a beautiful puss ..but don’t tell the others I said that! It sounds like you’ve created a place of contentment for you and your menagerie!

MOL CATachresis! I promise I won’t tell the others…. but with our little diva ruling the roost around here, they kind of already know she is quite the beautiful one!

  3. I can tell the room must be AMAZING! Here I was all excited about my new office, which coincidentally some of the walls are a “raisin” color, more like burgundy, and another wall is a light honey…..everyone made fun of me when I picked out the colors, but like you, I march to my own drummer and knew it would be a cozy haven. I did a video of it before the photos were on the wall…I must take another….I have cat artwork on one of the walls. It isn’t as grand as your room I am sure but it is cozy and yes Muhammad MUST come to MY mountain too! xoxo

    • Deb says:

Caren – as long as you are happy and cozy, then that’s all that matters! I wouldn’t say this room is grand either – but it is mine and it is filled with love, so in that regard, it is grand! I love the colors you picked out too!

  4. Sunflowers and leopard print go beautifully together but the purrfect accessories are the warm furry ones 🙂

    • Deb says:

Layla…. you are absolutely right, the kitties by far are the best accessory and they compliment every room in the house!
