Feline Quotable Photo Series – Cats, Naps, and Math!

“When people come to our house, they usually remark on the fuss we make about our cats. It’s true, we spend ridiculous amounts of time talking about the cats, their whiskers and paws, their sleeping habits. We speculate on what they must be thinking. We anthropomorphize them to the limits of absurdity.” At quick glance, you would easily assume that was me talking about my cats. Or you, talking about your cats. But it’s not. This gem actually comes from Stephan Baker, author of the quote for today’s “Feline Quotable Photo Series” that stars two of Zee and Zoey’s kittens at 3 weeks of age that I cannot possibly identify.

When you look up information on Stephan Baker, the last thing you would expect is such astute cat commentary. Known primarily as an American journalist, author, and blogger about subjects that focus on mathematics, such as his first published book, The Numerati, which discusses the increasing role that data-mining plays in shaping politics, business, law enforcement, and even romance.  In early 2011, Houghton Mifflin published Baker’s next book, Final Jeopardy, which follows IBM’s development of  “Watson” an artificial intelligence computer system designed to play human contestants in the television game show Jeopardy. Wow… heavy stuff! All I can say is anyone that puts cats on a pedestal to such an extent is okay in my book, even if mathematics was never a subject I was good at understanding…

And I know being with cats helps to serve the “other side of the brain” from the logical and literal. He is a fascinating person.
