Deb’s Cat Stamp of Approval – April Edition

As time moves on in the kitty blogosphere, I continue to meet so many great human and feline friends. I had no idea how literate the cat population was until I became a blogger myself – it seems that thousands and thousands of cats have taken to the social world – some with twitter accounts, some with facebook pages, some with blogs, and many with all of the above. I am not sure if perhaps there is a subliminal plot by them to overtake the universe, but one thing is for sure – each cat is wonderfully unique and each cat  is worthy of our attention. That brings me to my “Cat-Stamps of Approval” for the month of April (hey, I still have a few days left before it is officially May).

I happened to meet this first recommended blogger at the Pet Writer’s Conference I attended in NYC a couple of months ago and this young lady already has quite an extensive following and fan base, so many of you are probably already familiar with her. Her name is Stephanie and she is the author of the very quirky and creative blog, catsparella, which in a nutshell, is “Pop Culture Pussy Cat. All Cats. All the Time.” This blog is a wonderful combination of old time vintage pieces with modern, up to date current stories. Stephanie shares many wonderful videos, pictures, and stories of other cat bloggers, as well as stories that might involve cat art and cat fashion, celebrities, current events, or product reviews. One of my favorite posts involved the late Elizabeth Taylor. Rather than a re-hashed story of all the movies and husbands in la Taylor’s life, Stephanie posted a wonderful collection of vintage photos of Elizabeth with the many cats in her life. It was completely unexpected and I really enjoyed learning about Elizabeth’s love of cats.

The other site I enjoy is called The Kitty Hut and it is a virtual smorgasbord of cat related stuff. From health and first aid issues to a section on popular cat names and breeds, this site is quite informative and offers us cat lover’s a lot of information in a quick and easy format. I did a quick look at the Cat Names section to see where my cats ranked with these results – Zee, Mia and Harley were not listed at all. I didn’t really think Zee would be on the list, but I thought Harley and Mia would be for sure. Not surprisingly, Jazz made the list. Rolz, Peanut, and Zoey made the list, but with a different spelling variation. Rolz was spelled “Rolls,” Peanut was “Peanuts,” and Zoey was “Zoe.”

The next site I found is not a cat blog, but it’s a fun site nonetheless. It is called Cat Astrology and I was amazed at how spot on accurate the sign reading for Zee and Zoey was! This is the first sentence that describes the Aries cat, which Zoey is: “A temperamental and active creature, the Aries Cat is the most exasperating of the Zodiac, whose impact is formidable as he or she rushes through life, leaving a trail of demented impressions behind.” For Zee, our delightful Virgo, his reading begins: ” The Virgo Cat is the near-perfect domestic cat. Governed by the most malleable of all Zodiac Signs, this will be the creature closest to the ideal feline pet. Thorough and conscientious in everything this cat sets his or her mind to, the Virgo Cat is a joy to have around…”  I almost felt as if the astrologist personally met Zee and Zoey it was so on the money! Check out your cat’s sign and see what you think!

Happy upcoming spring and see you all next month!

Oh! Thank you for adding our cat names to your Kitty Hut list – I wasn’t expecting that! It’s a great idea to let people suggest names to be added… you know how us cat lover’s are with our kitties – we are like proud parents who like to show pictures and brag about our kids!
