Couch Potato Caturday – Hanging Out With Harley
A couple days ago for Wordless Wednesday I posted several pictures of the gang “letting it all hang out.” It consisted of them in various stages of relaxation with their adorable bodies hanging off one of our cat condos as well as the kitchen counter. It also showcased a picture of Zoey looking her ever dignified self, as she refuses to partake in such crude behavior. Conspicuously missing was Harley as some of you pointed out in the comments.
The cats getting ready to claim their spots for a day of cat condo napping and relaxing. This was back when Jazz was with us – he wasn’t a “let it all hang out” kind of cat, but he did love to climb high and curl up in a ball for his nap.
Well, truth be told, I didn’t even have to scour through my thousands of cat images to find out the reason why. Simply put, our Harley is a couch potato. With the exception of a brief time span when she was a kitten and actually enjoyed jumping to bat at a feather toy and the inexplicable time she jumped up into the attic rafters when we gutted our kitchen for renovations (for full details on that incident, you can read all about it in The Chronicles of Zee & Zoey) she has been a tried and true low-dwelling, non-jumping, non-climbing cat.
So the reason that we do not have one single picture of her on a cat condo or the kitchen counter or any place higher than two feet is because she has never been there. Ever. The highest mountain she has climbed is to the top of the bed and that is that. She will also frequent the couch or a basket on the floor, but as you can see from the pictures to follow, she still can let it all hang out with the best of them! Whoo hoo – you go Harley!
Mia is mortified by Harley’s extremely unladylike pose and is doing her best to ignore her…

Harley is my kinda cat. Spaniel would love him too since is also a member of the couch potatoahlics club but I think its for canines only. I will do the helpful hints of relaxing today.

That’s ok! Harley is just a “bush dweller” Cody is a “tree dweller” like your other kitties. Climbing is the most exercise Cody gets, he’s lazy as heck about everything else!
OMC, Harley! The photo of you on your back in the basket is irresistibly adorable! It’s smart to be a couch potato sometimes. If you hang out on the floor while everyone else is up in cat trees, you get the whole territory to yourself.

Oh sweetie, you are one gorgeous ladycat. SWOON! I think they have been hiding you from us so you don’t have all those mancats chasing you. he he – just teasing you. I’m a SLUG – or so M says. Dat’s why I have a weight problem. I can climb anywhere in the house I want to climb, but just choose not to go much higher than the fireplace mantel maybe 3 times a year, and sometimes the sofa or chair backs. I don’t even like to play with toys very much, even tho M tries and tries to get me to play. Sigh! What can I say – some of us kitties are just lovers and snugglers I guess.
I demand time on your cat tree…

We’re all couch potatoes here…though Wally usually sleeps in the same positions as Harley. He has no shame. 🙂

Most of my cats love to be up as high as they can get, but one of my cats likes to stay low. The funny part about that is that when she first joined my household, she stayed on the screened-in porch for a couple of weeks (don’t freak out – she’d been an indoor/outdoor cat before). She liked the porch because it was nice outside and we had fans, night lights, comfy chairs, condos etc. But, whenever she’d get spooked; she would run up into the rafters. Since then, she has joined the indoor cats and is allowed to go onto the patio with the other cats when we are home. But, she rarely goes out there. Now when she gets spooked (usually by the vacuum cleaner) she runs under the bed instead of up into the rafters. Isn’t that interesting? Maybe there wasn’t an adequate enough hiding place on the patio. P.S. None of my other cats have ever been up in the rafters. LOL
