This was Mom and Christine at an adoption fair last year… One look at the two of them and you know they are nothing but trouble… Who do they think they are? Cats?

Human Mom and her buddy, Christine Michaels of Riverfront Cats are heading out to the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Pet Expo today to represent their nonprofit, Pawsitively Humane, so that they can help teach people about topics such as pet responsibility and the importance of spay/neuter. Read more

Zee and Zoey’s Blog Nominated for Two Prestigious Dogtime 2014 Pettie Awards

petties-2014

In light of all that has been going on lately, I could easily be hired for an acting role on the Walking Dead without the need to audition… Even with makeup on I look like a Zombie and despite that I know I am supposed to be taking care of myself, that falls into the category of “easier said than done.” My emotional state is beyond fragile, so when I found out Zee and Zoey’s blog had been nominated for two Pettie Awards, you can only imagine that I broke down in a flood of humble gratitude for all of you that have supported us along the way…

We have been nominated for Best Designed Blog which we always appreciate – we want our stunning kitty photographs, charming graphics, and compelling writing to entertain you each and every time you visit our blog and we are happy to know that we have achieved that goal since you supported us in that category!

Rolz says think what you want, but he knows he’s the creative genius at Zee and Zoey’s!

But even more touching is the nomination for Best Blog Post for the post we did to honor the passing of our beloved Mr. Jazz who went to the Rainbow Bridge on August 28th, 2013, entitled “A Tribute to Mr. Jazz – The Dignity of Life and Death and Finding the Beauty in Letting Go.”

The outpouring of love and support you all shared with us during that difficult time will never be forgotten and it is especially poignant as we struggle to come to terms with the unexpected loss of Harley a couple of weeks ago.  As with Jazz, the support and friendship you have given us to help ease the pain as we mourn Harley’s passing has been overwhelming and it makes this Pettie nomination all the more special to us because win or lose, we know what true friendship is and we are forever grateful to have all of you in our lives.

Weekend update

Sure, the human thinks she is responsible for the stellar writing at Zee and Zoey’s but Peanut and Mia spill the beans and show everyone who’s really running the show… (Side note – this picture is from 2012 and if you look closely, that is a picture of Harley on the computer screen)

Thank you again to everyone for your love and support – we fully admit that the competition is stiff and that we don’t expect a victory. We love everyone we are up against and wish all of them and everyone else the best of luck.

PHI_FINAL_LOGO

So how do you nominate Zee and Zoey and your other favorite bloggers? It’s easy – you are able to vote once a day through Thursday, August 7, 2014 midnight PST and winners will be honored with a personalized Petties trophy and a $1,000 donation to a non-profit 501c3 shelter or rescue of their choice. If we win we would donate the money in honor of Mr. Jazz and Harley to our favorite organization, Pawsitively Humane, Inc. that was founded by our dear friend and animal lover, Christine Michaels of Riverfront Cats. The Reinvention of a Cat Writer and The 2013 Friskies Writer of the Year Award

BADGE_BlackPro

Our new logo was unveiled at the conference. Design by Debbie Glovatsky.

Now that I am back from the Cat Writers’ Conference I have had some time to reflect on what the experience meant to me. This year’s theme was “Reinventing Yourself for the Digital Age” and I found the premise relevant to me on so many levels because I was someone who used to fight the dizzying array of social and technological changes that came my way tooth and nail. I now realize reinvention is akin to a cat who manages to make the difficult task of balancing on a ledge look so graceful and effortless – easier said than done, but the marriage of new and old can be a wonderful balance of reinvention if you embrace and allow it. Caturday Weekend with Cats Exclusive and the 2013 CFA Annual Cat Show

Libra and Betty – two of the sweet kitties I met at Cats Exclusive

A couple of months ago I stopped by Cats Exclusive, an organization and adoption center local to me devoted to rescue, low cost spay/neuter and TNR efforts. I wanted to introduce myself to them as well as to drop off some of my books so that they could give them away as gifts when someone adopted a cat. It was through them that I found out about the 2013 CFA Annual Cat Show and they told me I should look into attending since it would be local to me and a good venue to sell my book and meet fellow cat lovers. DanDeb

A rare look into the other side of my life with Dan – sans leopard and the cat ears!

Many eons ago in an uncivilized world, I had another life. A life that involved cats, but only in the sense they were beloved household family members and I had a different job. A job that entailed executive administrative and marketing work, but it was long before AOL dialup was introduced to the mainstream public, emails, iPhones, Internet, Google, blogs, and Facebook. Thankfully I did live in a world with running water, electricity, cars, air conditioning, televisions, telephones with long black cords, and computers with the ability to create endless excel spreadsheets to save on what was called a “floppy disk,” or I don’t know how I would have survived under such archaic conditions…

I worked for a body armor manufacturer back then and it was also then that I met Dan for the first time in 1999. I happened to be married at the time and our relationship was strictly one of co-workers and I did not give it much thought other than that. Completely unrelated to Dan, I went through a divorce in 2003 and it was shortly after that time that we realized we had a great friendship developing and started dating. Eventually we became engaged, he moved in, 8 cats later, we have been an inseparable team ever since. Read more
