Happy Mother’s Day to Pawsome Mom’s Everywhere!

A proud Mama Zoey and her days old kittens (Born on February 12, 2009)

Mama’s come in all shapes, sizes, colors, species and races. A mother can be a mother by birth, by adoption, by friendship or any number of other circumstances. A mother can even be a male, or maybe an aunt or a sister or someone who is an expecting Mama-to-be. To me, being a mother is defined as being someone who cares for, who nurtures for, who teaches and who inspires. Some of us are good at it and a lot of us still have a lot to learn. Doesn’t really matter how you define the word though – it is personal to all of us and there is no correct definition in my opinion.

Recapturing my Youth

I don’t know exactly when it happened. Maybe it’s the magic “Five-O” age, maybe it’s because I am going to a baby shower this weekend for my dear friend Madalina who is old enough to be my daughter, who is now having daughter’s of her own (she’s expecting twins), but I have been feeling a bit out of sorts lately coming to grips with the fact that I am no longer young. Wrinkles, sagging, aches, and pains… I have them all and despite all the miracle claims the commercials on TV make, there is no product in the world that makes all that magically disappear! So, rather than a long post bemoaning my fate, I felt nostalgic for some youth and thought I would just simply post a picture of one of Zee and Zoey’s kittens that was taken at 6 weeks of age – besides newborn babies, there is absolutely nothing more precious in the world than a sweet little kitten! I know this picture gave me my smile for the day and I hope it brightens your day as well! As far as who this kitten is… well… your guess is as good as mine! We found it virtually impossible to figure out who was who at this age, so this picture is either of Mia, Peanut, Rolz, or Zeuss!

Official Zee & Zoey Mews-Worthy Mention: Ellen DeGeneres to be Honored at Petco Gala!!!

Let us make this VERY CLEAR – we do not like to be interrupted from our daily routine of napping for anything unless it involves Betty White, lizards, or a mews-worthy mention on none other than our beloved ELLEN DEGENERES. So, when our human Mom who is a compulsively,  over-the-top, border line nutcase who needs to be committed fan of Ellen, pointed out that she is being honored in a gala sponsored by the Petco Foundation to recognize her efforts to improve the quality of life for animals and the people who love them, we HAD to jump off the couch and have human Mom do a post for us. Normally mom can be a bit cranky about us bossing her around, but she didn’t even mind us tricking her to write the post for us.

The gala will be held on Saturday, April 30th at the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina. According to Paul Jolly, the Executive Director for PETCO Foundation, “We are fortunate to have a great many active supporters, and it’s always an honor for us to celebrate the great work being done by our friends and partners to help animals in need. We’ve been big fans of Ellen and her dedication to animal welfare, both in her personal life and through her work with Halo, for many years. We’re thrilled to recognize her at this year’s gala, and to provide financial support to the Halo Pet Foundation.”

Even though we don’t know you Mr. Jolly, we couldn’t agree more and sure are thrilled that so many animals will benefit from Petco, Halo, and Ellen’s efforts!! A total “5 paws up” for sure! If it weren’t for the fact that we refuse to travel in a pet carrier, have nothing to wear, and have other plans that day (an all day nap fest that we just can’t possibly reschedule on such short notice) we would surely be there to honor Ellen!
