Mark Your Calendars – August 28: Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Event

august_28

Mark your calendars everyone – there’s a special new day planned!

As we all know from the world of blogging, there are numerous special events dedicated to particular days, weeks, and months of the year for our pets. Two of them – World Pet Memorial Day (June 9) and National Pet Memorial Day (the second Sunday in September) – are days to memorialize pets we have lost in our lives. But after writing Purr Prints of the Heart,  a book I wrote in tribute to the loss of my beloved cat, Mr. Jazz,  as a means to help people who had also lost pets and were struggling with the grieving process, I realized I wanted something more. Something that focused on two words I see on nearly a daily basis via blogging and social media – Rainbow Bridge. Read more

Kittenish by Gwen Cooper: Cat Selfies With a Serious Mission – Raising Funding for the Nepal Earthquakes

For those of you that know me, you know pictures aren’t my thing. I have a blog filled with gorgeous pictures of cats, but probably 95% of them are taken by Dan. Of the remaining 5%, 2% are stock images and 3% are really horrible, blurry pictures that I have taken – usually at an event like a BlogPaws conference where I travel alone. Even though it should be relatively obvious, I try to point out when I have taken the image, because I don’t want to discredit any of Dan’s beautiful pictures.

When it comes to selfies – those pictures that one takes of oneself, at very close range – my photography skills actually become even worse. And truthfully, at my age, selfies are not my flattering, best friend so I rarely attempt taking them. Cats and selfies – that’s an entirely different story because in my mind, there is just no such thing as a bad picture of a cat, and that is why New York Times bestselling author, Gwen Cooper’s newest book, Kittenish, is such a home run. Hug Your Cat Day – A Mandatory Part 2 in Perpetuity

Hug-Deb&Co

This was the image I shared for Hug Your Cat Day – I love this picture because all of my cats are sharing the love with me!

June 4th was Hug Your Cat Day, but somehow it just doesn’t seem like enough. On Monday, my dear friend, Caren Gittleman of Cat Chat with Caren and Cody did a review of Purr Prints of the Heart that really stopped me in my tracks. You always run the risk of asking a friend to do a review – will they be honest with what they write, or will they feel obligated to say something positive so as not to risk hurting feelings? For those of you that know Caren, she is a straight shooter and that happens to be one of the reasons I adore her so much. She tells it like it is and she doesn’t pull punches. When I read her review, she brought me to tears. I knew it was the real deal – it came from the heart and she really got the essence of the book. Read more

Happy 3rd Birthday to Kizmet and Happy 4th of July to America!

kiz3

According to his adoption paperwork, our feline firecracker, Kizmet, was born July 4th, 2012. He was called “Logan” at the time, but I renamed him Kizmet, as in believing it to be fate that I found him at a Pet Supermarket that I normally didn’t shop in. I fell hopelessly in love with him the moment I set eyes on him in his cage back in November of 2012 and so did Dan after I texted a picture to him. Read more

Caturday Sunshine – An Eternal Ray of Hope

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy, sunshine in my eyes can make me cry.

Sunshine on the water looks so lovely, sunshine almost always makes me high.

If I had a tale that I could tell you, I’d tell a tale sure to make you smile.

If I had a wish that I could wish for you, I’d make a wish for sunshine for all the while.

~John Denver~

Harley always reminded me of sunshine with her mottled fur coat and golden/green eyes – a beautiful mixture of tortoiseshell and calico cat with a sweet white bib and mittens. She is gone, but she will always be my special ray of sunshine and for that I am grateful. Read more
