It’s no secret I’m all about my cats. I’ve had cats my whole life, so I’ve been a cat mom to not only my wonderful gang of Zee, Zoey, Mia, Peanut, Rolz, Kizmet, and Jazmine, but to many angel cats too, like my precious Jazz and Harley. National Pet Week – the bond with a pet is a life-long commitment of love and responsibility.

May 7 -13 is National Pet Week and while it’s fun to reflect on all the joy our pets bring into our lives and we would all agree that every week should be pet week, it’s also a time to reflect on the seriousness of responsibility we have to our pets. It’s a lifetime commitment – from the happy to the sad, to the easy to the hard. National Pet week was created 35 years ago by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) to help pet guardians manage that responsibility and this year they are highlighting a specific need each day of the week to remind us what every pet owner should consider to ensure that their pet lives the longest, healthiest life possible. Many years ago when I was a child I lived a very difficult life. Money was tight for our family (consisting of my mom, my step-dad, my brother and sister, and assorted step-family members who stayed with us on unpredictable, varying days). We lived in a very rural area – miles away from the small town’s main street that boasted of an ice cream shop and a tiny movie theater – and relied completely on farming, gardening, hunting, and fishing to sustain ourselves. Clothes were homemade and food was made from scratch – it was a physically demanding life and I was always jealous of my friends who lived in town, buying their food and conveniences in the supermarket and whatnot. From all of us at Zee and Zoey’s we wish you a Happy Easter and blessings for a beautiful day. We are grateful we will be spending the day with family, enjoying the simple moments life gives us by them being a part of it. Happy Sunday and wishes for a great upcoming week as well.

The first time I held my precious leopard spotted Zoey it was back in 2008. She was 12 weeks old at the time and I was in the process of bringing her to her new forever home with me. She barely fit in the palm of my hand, she was that tiny, but she screamed so loudly during the car ride you would have thought she was a full-grown wild leopard. Today, on her 9th birthday, she’s still that tiny, slim, sleek, and lean cat. She’s also the same force to be reckoned with. Her vocal cords remain loud and clear as I can attest to each and every morning as dawn breaks.

I love you my sweet girl. And so does everyone else in the house. Especially daughter Mia who loves to spend time near you, despite that you sometimes wish she’d be a little less cuddly with you. I hope you have a great day filled with lots of love, sunbeams, snacks, cat naps, and more!
