The Cats Share a Most Glorious Moment in Time…

glorious-morningAh… Memories… I remember it like it was yesterday… Or like it was 6 days ago… Which it was… Yes, that’s right, for one brief moment in time last Sunday, October 5th, Dan and I were treated to one of those glorious South Florida mornings where the temperature was a blessed 68 degrees. No humidity, no scorching 90 plus degree temperatures that are now back with a vengeance, just a wonderfully beautiful morning.

To celebrate the occasion, we did something with the cats that we had not done with them for months and months… we took them outside for a backyard outdoor excursion! Well, let me just tell you for those that may doubt the intelligence and communicative abilities of an animal – all the cats were lounging in the living room, bird watching from their favorite “TV” window. Dan and I were in the kitchen and we said out loud to one another with no cat in sight, “maybe we should take the cats outside.”

Ho hum… another rerun on the BWN (Bird Watching Network)

Before we could even finish the sentence, seven cats literally stampeded into the kitchen, meowing their agreement to us lest we changed our minds and proceeded to wait impatiently by the door to be let out! For them, they think it is as simple as us opening the door, but for Dan and I who supervise them like over-protective hawks, we have to gear up for the event because we want to keep them safe and sound. Even though the backyard is fenced and well protected, they are not allowed to roam on their own (Zoey and Jazmine have to wear a harness and leash) and we hover over them, doing a constant head count.

Despite that it is quite the ordeal, it is worth the effort to see how happy we make them. Jazmine has only been outside a handful of times and was beside herself with excitement. She zipped up every tree we had and looked like a crazed-wild eyed hyena! Mia chirpped her appreciation the whole time she was outside, Zee soaked up the sun, Rolz hunted for lizards, Zoey sniffed every plant she could find, Kizmet zoomed around following Jazmine, and Peanut walked the perimeter, over and over like some sort of trained guard cat.

Dan was able to get some fantastic pictures to capture the moment in time and so I thought I’d share them all with you today! I hope you enjoy them and wish you all a wonderful weekend! And if you have a minute to check it out, I will be on the Pet Radio Show today at 1:00 pm, EST, with Cat Behaviorist, Marilyn Krieger to talk about the challenges of multi-cat homes. Also featured on the show will be Venus the perfectly divided black and orange cat as well as Elizabeth Holtz from Alley Cat Allies to talk about National Feral Cat Day which is October 16th! Jazmine is so happy to be outside that she is shouting to the world all about it!

This was Jazmine looking in wonderment at a tree… which she then proceeded to climb seconds later!

KIzmet is in pursuit of Jazmine… where did she go?

4-outside

Wide-eyed Mia hiding in the tall papyrus… She doesn’t think we can see her!

5-outside

Peanut is making the rounds and isn’t sure if Jazmine is friend or foe!

Zee always has the ability to look beautiful, regal,  and full of awe no matter where he is!

And yesterday was one of the most beautiful days that we Floridians have experienced. It was purrfect. Our kitties took a long sunbath in their window seat soaking in the warmth. I could swear I saw smiles on their faces as they slept.

Hi Swiss Cats – we have a very high fence in the backyard. Never let out in the front and never let out in the back unless completely supervised. Jazmine and Zoey wear a leash and harness!

What a gorgeous and happy day for cats and humans. When we get the type of day you describe, it reminds me of spring days in Santa Barbra, CA, where we went to college. Whenever we get a day like that in the spring or fall here in VA, the world looks iridescent and my heart sings! Our kitties are so lucky to have their Catio and an eye on the outside world from close up. Hope y’all get another day like this very soon. Hope you will join us for our version of the Mice Bucket Challenge with a comment-a-thon on Monday. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo

Sixty-eight degrees, huh? For us, these days, THAT’S a scorcher. Autumn has arrived up here in Canada.
