Respect the Cat – All Day, Every Day!
You know you respect me… How is it possible not to, afterall, I’m a cat…
Zoey here. Here we go again with another one of those human invented days on behalf of us kitties. Respect Your Cat Day. *Sigh* While we do appreciate the thought, do I really need to point out the obvious? You know, like everyday should be Respect Your Cat Day, or Hug Your Cat Day, or Love Your Cat Day, or Appreciate Your Cat Day. Let’s face it. Since you’re reading this blog, I know you’re a cat lover. And I also know you know there is no room for debate. Us cats rule not only the world, but we rule your hearts, your bed, your furniture, and just about every and anything else you can think of. Of course you respect us, how could you not?
But, I suppose perhaps the day has deeper meaning – like respecting us enough to make sure we are spayed or neutered, or that we have foods that are healthy and nutritious for us, or that you provide us with lots of toys and interactive playtime to keep us happy. Or even, shudder, that you take us to the vet to make sure everything is okay with us.
Or on an even deeper level, much as I can’t fathom this, I mean look at us, we’re creatures that have been idolized for thousands of years, but there are actually some people that don’t like cats. Some even go so far as hating us so much they want to harm us. I guess it’s specially designated days like these that we can use to help educate the world that we are living beings that deserve to be treated with respect, even if you don’t care for us.
We believe in respecting all living creatures – all day, everyday. Thank you to our dear Zee for being such a wise and noble model for this fitting quote.
Have a great day everyone – and lets try to make it one where we extend just tiniest bit more love, respect, understanding, and empathy to those around us. I know it’s Monday and that can kind of make us grumpy, but even a smile or kind word can go a long way!

Absolutely! And I advocate for capital punishment for anyone wilfully harming any cat, as was law in a much more enlightnened and respectful society, ancient Egypt.

The main things for humans to respect about cats is respecting their being cats… and not turning them into little humans. If humans can figure out how to do that, the rest will fill into line nicely.

Excellent post. I try to respect my cats, the only thing I do that they are not happy with is make them wear outfits for photo shoots- I do pay them in treats though 🙂

We agree with cats Herd You – anthropomorphizing can be dangerous if humans don’t understand our body language and non verbal cues are not the same as those humans give off.

This is a beautiful post. It is hard to believe that some humans go so far as to hurt us because they don’t like us; so each day, we send out hopeful prayers for peace for all living creatures.
