Reflections From a Fat, Lazy Cat on a Couch – Caturday Edition

Hi All! It’s Harley here with another rendition of “Reflections From a Fat, Lazy Cat on a Couch.” I can’t help but notice my other cat-mates get themselves in a bit of a tizzy when they see a bird outside our living room window. Since the female human is obsessed with feeding them, these birds are pretty much within eyesight 24/7 and no longer a rare and random sighting.

Don’t they get it by now? The birds are OUTSIDE and we are INSIDE. Yawn… I can just as easily see them from my comfortable spot on the couch and I’m not about to get up just to act like a possessed lunatic with my tail twitching like a propeller thinking I am actually going to catch one of these things. Not to mention, I realize its instinct and all for us cats, but let’s get real folks. The human slave feeds us EVERY SINGLE DAY. It’s not like we need to catch our food for survival. Seriously, I might be lazy, but I’m not stupid…

Well, that’s enough energy exerted for the time being. I’m back to doing what us cats really do best…nap. Pleasant dreams until next time…

  1. Ingrid King says:

Harley, you and Allegra are on the same page about those birds outside. She’s still interested when they come to the feeder, but if she’s napping when they appear, she’ll barely lift her head. Ruby, on the other hand, will race across the room to get as close to the window as possible, and watch the birds endlessly.

    • Deb says:

Ingrid – endlessly is a great description for Zee, Zoey, Mia, Peanut, and Rolz. It is amazing that they NEVER tire of these birds! Jazz, our resident elder doesn’t really seem to care about them one way or another. Harley, she clearly knows they are a couple feet away from her, but she has no interest whatsoever!! Purrs to Allegra and Ruby!

  2. Brian says:

You sure do look quite comfy! Y’all have a terrific weekend!!!

  3. Carolyn says:

I remember what you say in the book about Harley. Something like she exercises by moving from one side of the blanket to the other! I have to say that I’m developing quite a fondness for “spinster Harley” 🙂

    • Deb says:

I gotta admit Carolyn, of all the cats, Harley seems to resonate most strongly with people! Something about a lazy cat just strikes a cord – perhaps it is because as humans, we wish we could have the same kind of attitude she does!

  4. Marg says:

That is the best idea of all, to just take a good nap. Those birds will be back for another time. That is a cute picture of them all watching though. Have a super week end.

  5. Harley is a smart girl. How about a nap-a-thon for everyone?

  6. Jen solved the fat cat problem- she moved the cat tree by the front door so June Buggie can sit on the highest platform and look out the window to the birdies in the tree.

  7. Amin says:

    Beautiful cats!

  8. Cheysuli says:

Sometimes those birds catch my eye but not the way they get Gemini’s!

    • Deb says:

Well… so far the overwhelming opinion is that Zoey is thinking about a bird that is in her eyesight! I think that is quite possible, but my guess is that she has spotted a lizard that is going to be none to happy to make her acquaintance…
