Purr Prints of the Heart Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day 2019 Blog Hop

My beloved Jazz – we shared 15 years together, both the highs and the lows, and you will forever be in my heart.

I founded Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day in 2015, two years after my beloved Ragdoll cat, Mr. Jazz crossed the Rainbow Bridge on August 28, 2013. While perhaps the passing days have softened the pain of his loss, his memory still shines bright in my heart, and I will never forget the life we shared.

My sweet Jazmine who we rescued in 2014 and named in tribute for Jazz has much to do with this. It’s somewhat eerie, but when she carries a plush toy in her mouth the sound she makes brings me back in time. It’s the exact sound Jazz made carrying a toy in his mouth and I have to catch myself from calling her Jazz. I like to think it’s his way of letting me know he’s still around and it gives me comfort to “hear” him talking to me.

Jazmine back in 2014 – the first time I heard the noise she made carrying a toy stopped me in my tracks, as I truly thought it was Jazz for a minute.

Jazz a couple of months before his passing – his similarity to Jazmine is startling.

We all try to cope as best we can and I know it’s not always easy to open up and relive memories of loss. Especially for those of us who have losses that are recent, making it all the more difficult to bear. My beloved Zee was taken ill a few weeks back and I was paralyzed with fear his days with us were numbered. Thank God he pulled through, making the moments I share with him and all of my fur family all the more precious.

Purr Prints is a warm, spirited, and poignant tale written in the meow voice of Mr. Jazz that has touched the hearts of those who have read it. 1. Sometimes when Tylan is eating, he looks so much like Lita, it’s scary. It makes my heart skip a beat. Hugs and love you you on this day <3

  2. Jo Singer says:

This is a very special day for so many of us. Remembering our beloved angels- cherishing them- feeling them nestled in our hearts- knowing that their spirits will always be with us- is sacred to me. Shortly after our sweet 15-year-old Oriental Shorthair, Dr. Hush Puppy transitioned over the Rainbow Bridge, his brother, Sir Hubble Pinkerton, my husband Marty and I were, grieving deeply. To console Sir Hubble and to celebrate Dr. Hush Puppy’s life, Marty read your amazing book, “Purr Prints of the Heart”, out loud.. It truly comforted us.

Sending gentle hugs and love to you, dear friend,

Jo, Marty, Sir Hubble Pinkerton, and Dr. Hush Puppy.

    • Deb says:

Love to you and Marty. I always feel a special kinship to your precious Dr. Hush Puppy and Sir Hubble Pinkerton and it gives us comfort to know Purr Prints gave you some solace.

  3. What a beautiful way to remember our beloved furbabies no longer physically with us.

  4. Sandee says:

Thank you for hosting such an important remembrance day. ♥

  5. Timmy Tomcat says:

We are firm believers that there is another plane and we will be together, albeit very differently, when we too cross over. We have had those same small reminders by anothers actions, a meow heard at twilight where there is no living or tactile feeling in the night when one is alone. My heart is filled with the love given to all our family and more so to those who are elevated.
Thanks so much for your book that I have read several times. It has a place of honor on our bookshelf.

First of all, thanks for sharing Jazz and all your fur babies with us and hosting this day and blog hop. We are thankful for this remembrance day since we don’t have the dates most of our fur babies passed but we do have their memories etched in our heart.

The pain of separation from our loved ones never goes away until we are reunited, I feel; and I do not commemorate my beloved ones on any particular day, because there are so many of them who are up there watching. This is a poignant time of the year for me, as it falls between anniversaries of several losses including each of my parents, and on same day as my mom, our beloved angel Samuda. While the losses are felt every day, the comfort of precious memories can be, and are, held deep in our hearts.

Your story of Jazmine echoing Jazz’s voice and actions brings to mind our beloved Simba, and our sweet angel Rani, adopted shortly after Simba ascended. They were both extremely caring, especially when any of us was down or not feeling well; and I know Simba communicated to me to adopt Rani and give her the love I had shared with her, Simba.

    • Deb says:

I understand you are not commemorating on any particular day and completely respect that. This day is without any pressure or constraints, just a day of love and compassion. Thank you for sharing your story about Simba and Rani – isn’t it amazing how they communicate with us.

  10. Marie says:

    What beautiful angels x

Thank you for this special day of remembrance. Our sweet furbabies deserve it.

  11. Jan K says:

We have experienced a pet loss almost every year for the last 7. It never gets easier. I try not to focus on my sadness too much, but I appreciate a day like today that gives us a chance to dwell on the happy memories, even if through sad tears. Thank you for starting it and hosting the hop and FB page for all. ♥

    • Deb says:

It can be a hard day, Jan. I do admit that. But, as always, I’m so overwhelmed by the universal love and compassion shared on this day.

  12. Love this post Deb and seeing all the Angels who watch over you and your family always and forever. We did a post on the Facebook Page for Remembrance Day to honor our Angel Sammy even though he is just one of many cats who we’ve had the pleasure to know in our considerable years of enjoying pets. He was so special and my heart aches all over again every time I say his name. Thankfully Teddy understands that ! Teddy is also a special boy and we hope he’s with us for MANY years. But then we always hope they will be with us for many years – sometimes they leave us before we believe it’s their time but we just need to remind ourselves they ARE with us…………….forever.

    Love, Pam (and Teddy)

    • Deb says:

I’m sure Teddy understands the love you keep in your heart for Sammy. That’s how I felt with Jazz after he passed and we adopted Jasmine. They do stay with us forever and today is just a day to give an extra hello and reminder of that love.

  13. Sue Brandes says:

    Hugs to you.

  14. thank you so much for creating this special day (((hugs))) as you remember

  15. Andrea Dorn says:

Thanks so much for establishing this day of remembrance. While I have lost many and miss them ever so much I still can’t bring myself to join in on this day. I remember them every day. Maybe someday I’ll post about it.

    • Deb says:

I completely understand, Andrea and there is never any pressure to post. We all love our angel pets in our own way and I appreciate you stopping by. They are your sweet babies, forever in your heart.

  16. Ellen Pilch says:

Thank you for starting this special day to remember our angels. Beautiful post. XO

  17. meowmeowmans says:

Thank you for creating such and important and meaningful day to remember our beloved angels. Their beautiful memories are always in our hearts, but so too are the pain and sorrow caused by their absence. We sure do miss, and will always love Zoe, Moosey, Sammy, Maggie, Graphite and Bitsy, and so many others who came before. XO

It is a sad day and yet a happy day from the memories we have. Thank you for starting and bring to the fore what we have in our hearts and celebrated each day and night but with no outward release.
