One From the Archives – “I Has An Appointment With The Miz’s Zoey.”

Editors Note: By now, most of you know that Dan is not only my fiance, the photographer extraordinaire for the majority of the pictures on this blog, and human Dad to my seven kitties, but he is also a wonderful writer in his own right. Since I am currently at BlogPaws, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to re-post one of my favorite posts from the archives. This one just happens to be written by Dan as he shares one of his experiences from last fall.  Enjoy!

Anyone who runs their own business as a sole proprietorship or partnership has no doubt experienced the process of structuring the business. Forming a new business as an LLC (Limited Liability Company) is a relatively quick, easy and inexpensive way for new business owners to operate a business with limited liability as well as additional benefits.

LLC’s are regulated by the statutes of the state where they are formed and in most cases you simply prepare and file LLC “articles of organization” with your state’s LLC filing office. Once you’ve done this, your LLC becomes a matter of public record, and ZeeZoey Partners LLC was a matter of PUBLIC RECORD, which opened the door to ANYONE and EVERYONE who wants to SELL your new business their merchant credit card services, office supplies, printing, and a barrage of other services. One of those other services is insurance.

Here in South Florida, we sweated through one of the hottest summers on record and early September was no different. It was the first day of September and the temperature was approaching a sweltering 90 degrees. At just about 2:30 in the afternoon, there was a knock at the front door. I opened the door and in front of me stood what can only be described as a scene right out of an old black and white movie.

There before me stood what what I could only describe as, “The Classic Southern Gentleman” from a time long since past. His face was a deep, dark polished black, etched with the lines of time and highlighted with numerous beads of sweat. He wore a suit reminiscent of the administration days of President John F. Kennedy, carried what appeared to be some sort of basket-weave type briefcase from the 1950’s and topped it all off with a straw hat with a ribbon running through it which he promptly removed upon my opening the door.

“Good Afternoon, mighty hot afternoon”, he stated as he smiled broadly, “I has an appointment with the Miz’s Zoey.”

Somewhat surprised but intrigued by this man from the past who stood before me, I asked him, “Really? When did you make this appointment with the Miss Zoey?”

He hesitated, then stated, “My boss actually made the appointment, not exactly sure when.”

I then asked him what this was regarding.

“I is going to be presenting my company’s insurance plans to the Miz’s Zoey”, he politely stated.

Now, normally at this point, and anyone who knows me will attest to this, I would have shown this man the fastest way to find the nearest highway entrance. However, this man’s presence, character and personality continued to intrigue me, after all, it wasn’t just another knock at the door from the Jehovah’s Witnesses, which is another story in and of itself.

So, I opened the front door wider so as the gentleman could easily see the sofa inside the living room, pointed my finger toward the sofa and stated to him, “Zoey is right over there napping on the sofa. Perhaps after she wakes from her nap and has some kitty kibble she would possibly be available.”

The look on this man’s face was priceless, eyebrows raised high and the whites of his eyes exaggerated. He promptly brought his hat back to his head after a long moment of silence and said, ” I’m so sorry, begging your forgiveness, I’ll let my boss know.”

He turned and walked down the front path and got into his car, which from all appearances appeared to be a classic early 60’s Lincoln Continental which had long ago seen it’s finer days, and proceeded to drive ever so slowly down the street.

As I closed the door, I thought to myself, what a great blog post… the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

Dan, that’s like something out of Hemingway, or maybe Raymond Chandler, lol! You painted an atmospheric picture 🙂

I’m sorry Zee & Zoey didn’t win the stylish blog award 🙁 But hope you are having a great time at BlogPaws, Deb xox

Still laugh every time I think of that post. Congrats again, Deb, on your nomination. I’m really disappointed to see that Zee & Zoey did not win… actually, quite surprised to see. Checking out the winner’s page, I really don’t see how the two compare! But, as you know, you’re amazing and destined for much bigger things! Perhaps the universe is just saving up for the book and bestseller lists! 🙂 xoxoxo
