Mews-Worthy Mention – CFA Announce Top 5 Breeds to Mixed Reviews…

Zoey in her full wrath....

Hmmmpfff…  As seen on the catster blog, The Cat Fancier’s Association (CFA) has just come out with its 2010 Top 5 List as of registered cat breeds and the results have caused a bit of a riff in our feline family with considerable disagreement and temper tantrums. Needless to say, I am writing this post on my own as Zoey has just slammed the door and shut herself in the bedroom. She won’t even let me use our official Zee/Zoey “Mews-Worthy” picture in this post. First discrepancy would be point number one – leading the list as the reigning champion since the 1970’s is the Persian. Some kind of nonsense about their obvious beauty, good personality, and love of people…

Look at how sweet I am... clearly a mistake has been made...

I really think this must be some sort of editing misprint or accidental mix up on behalf of the CFA, because the number two top breed is me, the Maine Coon, also fondly known as “the gentle giant.”  Clearly we are the sweetest breed in the entire world and how this mistake gets past editing year after year is beyond me, and therefore I felt it my obligation to point out this glaring error. I will expect a retraction by nights end…

Number three on the list is the Exotic. Well, I don’t even know what that breed is, so how it made it to number three, I don’t have a clue. I thought exotic was a descriptive word and not an actual breed, but here is the definition from CFA President, Jerry Hanza, who has been a Persian cat breeder for 15 years, in case you didn’t know either.  “An Exotic is pretty much a Persian cat with short hair,” says Hanza. “It’s a good choice for people who like the Persian laid-back personality but don’t want to deal with the grooming.” He continues, “Exotics come in all the colors of Persians and have the same head and face structure, but their shorter fur, with its fuzzy texture, is much more low maintenance than its long-haired cousin.”

Whatever…. seems like maybe the Persians have been greasing the kitty litter box if you know what I mean…  just saying…

Mr. Jazz

Number 4  on the list is the Ragdoll, which I will admit is an excellent choice. Our Mr. Jazz who resides with us is a Ragdoll and he is actually quite a nice cat if you like soft, cuddly, happy cats who like to purr and look like big ole bears. My humans love Jazz a whole lot, so that must say something.

Last on the list is Sphynx, which I gotta admit, kind of confused me. I thought I was looking at a picture of a rat or a chihuahua, but turns out it’s actually a breed of cat. I’m sure it is a really nice cat, I really can’t make judgement on something I know nothing about, but I do know it can get a bit obnoxious grooming my fur, so maybe the Sphynx really has it all figured out.

Ugg, I hate having to say this, because, ME, ME, ME. I have to deal with the outstretched claws of Zoey, and you can only imagine how the fur is flying in our house.  Hell hath no fury like the wrath of a scorned Zoey. No where on the list is the Bengal. And I mean NOWHERE. I tried everything I could do to find the word Bengal, but with no luck.  Not even a mere whisper. Zoey is so mad I can’t even write the words she is spouting, they are so foul. She has made it very clear to me, that the Bengal breed is superior to ALL breeds, including the Maine Coon, and there is no room for discussion.  Dear Mr. Hanza, for my safety, would you please reconsider your list?

I was willing to give this list a “3 Paws Up,” maybe even a 4, but Zoey absolutely refuses to allow that. She continues to pout in the bedroom and tells me she will never growl at me again if I so much as give this article “1 Paw Up.” So, as you can see… we give this list no paws up at all…. Sigh…

  1. All our cats thought this was the year they would beat our the Persians. They are all disappointed.

    • Deb says:

Yes indeed… maybe next year, but one thing is for sure, the Maine Coon will always be a number one winner in our house! You have a wonderful website – we appreciate your efforts towards the adoption of Maine Coons who need a good home.

  2. JaneA says:

Zoey may be vindicated within the next few days. Keep an eye on the Kitty News Network blog. 🙂

    • Deb says:

Oh! That is certainly good news for Zee… he is the one that has had to deal with Zoey’s sour puss!! Can’t wait to check it out!

  3. …there is something for everyone out there, and while Teri doesn’t play favorites in our house of 5…Disco NoFurNo is fursure in the top 5, hahameow!
