Hill’s Science Diet for Cats – Gourmet Gift Basket Giveaway!

As my series for the Hill’s Science Diet company comes to a close, if there is anything I have learned is that there is a huge variety of food options available for our cats and a wide opinion of what best to feed them. In my house, my cats are proverbial creatures of habit and that includes both the food they eat and the time they want it. Their schedule is so internally structured by them that I could set an alarm to their eating needs. 6:30 am is breakfast, 6:00 pm is dinner, and 9:00 pm is snack time. Food is both a means of sustenance to them as well as a strong component to the feline-human bond we share.

While I clearly know that cats are not humans, it is hard not to draw connections to them and their behavior. The moment they wake up in the morning, they want fresh water and kibble. I want coffee and a doughnut. The only difference between us – what I feed them is healthy and nutritious and what I eat is anything but good for me.

cats at door

Hey! It’s almost time for dinner! Mom better be home soon!

When I get home from work each evening, they are waiting by the door for me and it is hard to walk into the kitchen to put my purse down without tripping over a cat or two. The ritual begins – kibble mixed with special canned food geared towards their dietary needs. Every night is the same thing and it always reminds me of Thanksgiving dinner – the meal is something you look forward to all day long and then a split second later you are done eating it and the moment is over!

The kitties patiently wait in the office for me to wrap up the day… they know once I am done that it will be play and treat time!

Before bedtime is our favorite time. I say “our” favorite time because that is when we share some extra-special time – physical playtime with cat toys and then special kitty treats that they love, love, love! I guess that would be comparable to a bowl of Ben & Jerry’s pistachio ice cream for me. Again, the only difference, the treats they get are healthy, mine are not!

SD_Product_Grouping_2013The point of all of this, is that all of these food routines and rituals become an important part of your life with your cat and the special bond you share. By encouraging an interactive relationship with your cat through a variety of foods, playtime, and treat time, you are promoting the health and happiness of your beloved cat. In that regard, Hill’s offers a wide selection of nutritiously balanced foods created specifically for the different ages and dietary needs of your cat such as Hill’s Science Diet Adult Gourmet canned Turkey Entrée for lean muscle and vital organ health, Hill’s Science Diet Adult Grain-Free dry food, and yummy, all natural Hill’s Science Diet Crunchy Creations Grain-Free with Chicken Treats.

And please note, I am not a pet dietitian. I am not telling you what to feed your cats. My cats happen to eat several types of Hill’s dry kibble, but they eat a brand of canned food at night that is not from Hill’s that was recommended to me from my veterinarian years ago. I am merely pointing out options available for you and letting you know in my busy household of 7 cats, that they like the monitored variety of food that I provide them. It works for my kitties and the good news is that if you would like to try some Hill’s food for your cats, Hill’s has a PAWSOME opportunity for 20 lucky readers to win a Hill’s Science Diet Gift Basket!

Treats2

My cats like their routines and their favorite one is when I share yummy and nutritious treats with them! Just keep in mind that treats are meant to be given in moderation and are not substitutes for mealtime.

Thank you all for being a part of this Hill’s series with us. We have enjoyed learning more about the health and well-being of cats, especially when it comes to learning the signs of aging in your cats and getting them to the vet more frequently for checkups to help ensure they live a long and healthy life.

kizmet-healthy

The relationship we share with our pets is so precious – healthy foods, regular visits to the vet, exercise, and lots of loving is crucial to maintaining their happiness and well-being.

Bon-appetite and as a reminder, please be aware that no matter what food you use with your kitty, when introducing new ones, do it gradually. Watch for any signs of excessive weight gain or loss and above all, give your kitties as much love and snuggles as you can, because that helps to keep them happy and healthy as well!

  7. jane sitler says:

Because we foster, along with our huge menagerie of cats and dogs, we go through a lot of food and have tried several brands. I have to admit that Hill’s is the one staple we constantly have on hand.

  8. Beverly says:

Would love to throw my hat in the ring to be eligible for the Hill’s Science Diet food basket for kitties. Thank you for your interesting and informative articles, Deb. I know Hill’s is a great cat food for our furry ones.

  9. Constance Marie says:

Please put my name in the drawing! I’m staying with Science Diet! It’s worth my cats health to me to feed them this.
I’d tried a cheaper food and am glad to be away from it.
My vet says, feed a quality food, like Science Diet, and it eliminates the #1concern if your cat is sick. They don’t have to
look at diet. Plus, cats stay healthier to start!

  10. Ivette M says:

    I’d like to participate! (:
Your cats are precious, I have a two year old siamese cat that needs all the energy she gets from her food to go and cause her daily havoc on the toys that she has, this would be lovely to feed her. I know she would enjoy every bite. (:

  11. Brianna Wagnon says:

your cats are absolutely beautiful! I’d love to participate. <3 I have an almost one year old kitty, whose name is Luna, solid black, and she is getting tired of her current food, so this would be wonderful. 🙂

  12. Melinda Koca says:

I agree that it’s fascinating how their little internal clocks work. They even seem to know right before the alarm is ready to go off at 4 AM and it’s also neat how they start gathering in the kitchen in the evening when they know it’s getting close to treat time. I have six little darlings at the moment and I must admit that my favorite time with them is on the rare mornings when we don’t have to get up to the alarm to go somewhere. That’s when we get to cuddle in bed longer. Several of them sleep with us… well one is always on top of me… but we get to actually love on each other for a long time and it makes it very hard to get up out of bed! With six, they eat me out of house and home and the gift basket would be a welcome addition to their usual buffet. Yes, they are spoiled and that’s just fine with me! I can spoil them more with Hill’s food and treats.

  13. Wez wanted to enter to win a goody basket. Meows Purrrrrrrs

  14. That’s a nice giveaway. I think what you said about setting the clock by the cats is so true. My cats know exactly when it is time for noms and are not happy when I dare to deviate from their schedule.

  15. Andrea Dorn says:

Oh, my cats definitely set the clock around here. When I used to work out of the home, my entrance through the back door meant it was time for their evening meal. Unfortunately now that I work at home, they seem to think that every time I come through the door, no matter what time it is, it is time to eat!

Seasonal time changes also mess things up. This fall when daylight savings time ended they all wanted to sleep in another hour. Of course, I obliged!

I could use a new food bowl for the family. Whenever I lose a cat, their bowl is usually retired – I just can’t bear to let anyone else use that special bowl. So I’m running out of good bowls.

  16. Kristen says:

    Wow what beautiful cats!

  17. I skipe the give-away since I live in Sweden 🙂
