Happy 8th Birthday to My Beautiful Zoey!
But a mere minute ago (or so it seems), I was on my way home with the feline love of my life sitting inches away from me in her well-appointed cat carrier, claws frantically trying to find a way out and screaming at the top of her lungs like a large and ferocious wildcat of the jungle to be freed from her prison. That was my Zoey back in 2008 when she was about 12 weeks old. She barely weighed anything – a beautiful and petite ball of fluff in miniature form that mimicked a large and graceful leopard.
Here we are now – 2016 – and it’s her 8th birthday. She’s still a tiny little thing, and she’s still got a meow that could wake the dead, or at the very least two very exhausted pet parents that would like to be able to sleep through the night maybe just once, but she’s my girl and I love her with all of my heart and soul.
Zoey’s the kind of cat that gives cats the label of being independent and aloof – you DON’T pick Zoey up and she doesn’t want you cooing and fussing over her. Unless of course she wants it on her terms. In that case, Zoey is actually the sweetest cat on earth. She’s loving, she’s devoted, and she’s my baby.
Not a night goes by that she doesn’t snuggle up on the couch with me on my outstretched legs to watch TV with me (in fact, if my legs aren’t properly stretched out, she’ll come let me know by glaring into my eyes to fix the situation). She also likes to sleep next to me in bed (until she decides it’s time to exercise her voice early in the morning) and she likes to nap on my lap when I’m on the computer.
I wouldn’t change a thing – I love her just the way she is and I wish her the happiest of birthdays and hopes for many, many, many more.
While today is a special day for my Zoey, it’s also the birthday of one of the most beloved bloggers in the whole blogosphere – Marg of Marg’s Animals. I interviewed Marg back in 2012 and thought it would be appropriate to re-share that post in her honor. Many things have changed for her with the passing of time (including the name of her blog), but the one thing that remains the same – Marg’s kind heart and love of animals, especially her love of feral cats. Please visit here for my interview.

Happy Birthday, Zoey. Thank you, Deb, for letting us share that special cat love. Your blog fills my heart usually good feelings and the sad, too. Hugs and purrs…
