June 21st – it’s officially the first day of summer, although here in South Florida the distinction between one season and the next can be a bit elusive. Regardless, I’m blessed with a glorious tropical backyard, one that’s safe and secure for supervised evening outings with my feline gang after they’ve eaten their dinner. Recently, I’ve been able to capture some beautiful moments of them enjoying the fresh air and I thought today would be a great day to share some of those images in celebration of summer. You’ll note most of the pictures are of Kizmet – he’s by far the most cooperative when it comes to sitting still for photos. Others who complied are Zoey, Shadow, and Jazmine. 30, 40, 50, 60…Typically these are milestone birthdays, not 61. But for me this year, when I turned 61 last month on September 26, it was a milestone, because it’s a day I’ll never forget. Maybe it’s because last year when I turned 60, it was rather anti-climactic. It’s not that I wanted pomp and circumstance and a big celebration, but Covid thwarted everything anyhow, making the day a quiet hurrah as I celebrated at home with Dan and the cats. Today is National Black Cat Appreciation Day and being blessed with a mini-panther in my life, our handsome rescue, Shadow, I know just how special these beautiful cats are. But, beautiful as they are, black cats are still considered by many to bring bad luck, simply because of the color of their fur. Those of us with black cats in our lives know we are the lucky ones to have them and in honor of the day, I thought I’d share some facts on what makes a black cat, black as well as some tips on how to take stunning photos of them.
