A Happy Cat Tail for a Happy Wordless Wednesday!
A cat’s tail speaks a language of it’s own and in this case, I would use the words plucky, confident, happy, and self-assured to describe what our little Mia with her tail held high and proud is projecting  as she enjoys one of those precious morning jaunts outside when we give the kitties a supervised break in our fenced in backyard. I love, love, love her message and I love this picture of her. Mia is perpetually a happy and content girl and her flagship tail is one of her most endearing trademarks. She is what a I would call a “puppy-dog-cat” and is prone to following Dan and I about the house, always with her tail at full attention as she enjoys being part of our comings and goings!
With eight cats, you can only imagine the amount of “tail conversations” that go on all day in night in our household, but this particular message happens to be my favorite one and seemed the perfect way to say “Happy Wordless Wednesday” – only a few more days until the weekend!
That is a great photo. We can tell how happy Mia is. That’s Mom’s favorite thing when she sees us kitties with our tails like “flags.” Our Angel Twinkle always looked like that and now Astrid is the one with her tail flying high! Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette
I love a “flag tail” too, Janet – it would be quite a sight to see all eight of my kitties doing it at the same time, but that has never happened! Love that Astrid does it with you!
hay ewe gorgeous….happee werd less wednesday two ewe two mia….hope ya haza wild whitefish wednesday; enjoy yur time out side N just coz….rolll in sum dirt…its grate fun 🙂 !!! XOXO
What????? Roll in some dirt…. did I read that right, tabbies? While that is definitely something Kizmet would do, our little Mia is too much of a prissy princess to get herself dirty!!
We have lots of tail language around here too. All the tail positions mean something different. Most of the time our tails are up like that and sometimes with a little curl in the end which of course means that they are glad to see you. Take care.
I can only imagine all the fun conversations all your kitties are having, Marg!!
She certainly does look happy. I rarely hold my tail that high unless the Woman is talking to me.
Chey… you do have a certain image to project and we respect that…. wouldn’t want anyone to think you we’re too happy and we won’t spread the word that you do it on occasion…
We have lots of happy tails around these parts too!
Oh my catness, I’m sure you do, Brian!!
What a great shot of an obviously confident kitty! Keep ’em held high, Mia : )
It’s funny, Wendy. Mia is actually a shy girl, but when she is happy and confident, she just can’t hide it!
Beautiful photo (as always). Tails are so expressive. I often tell mine to stop giving me the tail when I ask them to stop doing something they know is just wrong. I once had a cat who always had to have the last word which was just plain funny!
Kathryn – what a funny story – a cat having the last word with its tail, but I can completely picture that in my head!
Hello Beautiful Mia. Purrs from our boys for a fab May Day! That’s actually not a straight tail up but a happy hooked tail. It’s the “so happy to see you” tail.
Yes, actually the tail did start out straight up and then turned into the happy hook!! You and the boys have a great May Day as well, Layla!
My cat comes up to me with her tail shaking in little wiggles and wants me to pull on it lightly to show affection. They all have their little things.
Leesa – thanks for stopping by today! What a sweet trait your kitty has!
Happy Wednesday, Mia! An up-tailed kitty is a happy kitty. We say hi and send you many purrs.
Musings – “An Up-Tailed Kitty” sounds like a great song to pitch to Billy Joel!!
Beautiful. My kitties are very expressive with their tails.
Thanks Sue! I would love to hear more about your kitties!
I just love Austin’s tail conversations. It’s endlessly fascinating to me!! I love the way he walks by and winds his tail around my leg!! Everything about his mood is there in the tail. Thanks for coming by to wish him a happy birthday. His tail has been raised high all day 🙂 xx
It really is fascinating, CATachresis and I am sure Austin has quite the tail vocabulary!! It was my pleasure to pop by today and I am certain Austin was treated to an incredible birthday with oodles of wishes from his friends and fans!
Tales tell it all, happy and sad! Unfortunately we lost one of our furry tails this past weekend. Scruffy is gone but not forgotten! Thanks for hosting.

Sad News Of Scruffy
It is so nice to meet you, Karren, and I am very sorry to hear of Scruffy’s passing…
Truffle holds her tail high. Brulee’s tail is so long and she tends to hold it in a curly Q like a little piglet.
Mia sure does look happy in that beautiful picture. 🙂
Thank you, dear friends, for your kind and thoughtful comments when it was time for our Sammy to leave for the Bridge. The support and compassion of our friends has been such a source of strength at this sad time for us.
Much love and big hugs,
Kevin, Tracey and Moosey
Yep! me thinks a cat’s tail is even more expressive than their face. The cat across the road’s tail is only half, which is why me thinks me never knows what she is saying!
Kisses
Nellie
I love the gentle wave! Happy WW, a little late!
She is such a beautiful Ladycat! Very elegant too 😉
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a nice message for Milou. We really appreciate it. He is doing better and we hope he will stay that way!
Purrs
That is an awesome photo of a beautiful girl!!
Sorry I’m late to join the discussion, a perfect discussion that landed on my birthday. Coco was my first baby that I adopted all on my own, as my mom once said…and she greeted me oh, so dutifully with her tail curled into what I referred to then as the reverse question mark.
Then came Valentina, her half sister. She naturally took on the same tail signature.
Then, I rescued and adopted Manhattan. A seven month old feral from a colony underneath my building. She walked with her tail down for a period of time. When she started to greet me with her tail–it was in Coco’s signature reverse question mark. And now, I’ve noticed, this means something to these three–when I see this tail, I know things are good, and that I need to flow with it…
I look forward to discussing what our various tail conversations could mean. To me, it’s more than a basic emotion. It’s layered and likely as mysterious as the eye blink. Or the meow. Or wait–the face washing…so really, it’s just uniquely cat…
Oh yes, I so agree, Laura – the tail is the gateway to a wide and diverse emotional conversation that is unique to each cat for all the given moments of any day. I am happy to see that Manhattan has progressed to a much happier and confident cat.
