A Game of Katris and Mouse – Cat Scratching Furniture that is Fun and Practical
I helped spread the word a couple months ago about Katris – a cool company that makes eco-friendly, innovative, high quality block shapes that can be configured into a variety of decorating schemes. They were kind enough to send me one for my gang to try out, and not thinking, I chose the “L” shape, rather than “Z” for my Zee/Zoey brand.
Oh well, no worries. Typical to just about any cat on this planet, when the box arrived… the very LARGE box…it was an instant hit with my cats and they took to immediate possessive perching, thrilled to have a new piece of furniture to add to the already endless mountain of cat stuff we have in the front doorway. What? Oh, you mean there is something INSIDE the box too! Yes, there is, and after finally bribing convincing them to get OFF the box, I opened it up and was quite pleased with what I found.

Looking surprisingly like a penguin, Zee is the first to inspect the “L” once it is out of the box. Jazmine and Kizmet have engaged in a friendly fight, not caring that a photo shoot is in progress…
The “L” was quite large, very sturdy, attractive, and definitely a product worthy of the rigorous scratching routine my gang would put it through. Despite it being an “L” and not a “Z,” Zee took charge and claimed the scratcher as his (swatting anyone in his midst who dared say otherwise) and he gave it a very thorough workout with his claws.
Naturally, however, that was not the end of it, because now we had an EMPTY box in our midst. Well, thank you very much Katris, because that empty box was just about the BEST GIFT EVER! You know how that goes… like a toddler on Christmas morning… all those great toys, but it’s the empty box they play with!
Jazmine was especially over the moon excited with the addition of this most awesome box in her house. A day that by all rights would have been relatively boring – you know, look at a few birds through the window, nap, eat some kibble, etc. – became a day of unexpected high adventure! A fort! A liar to bring my kill! A hideaway to pounce on unexpected intruders!
Life has since calmed down, but the box still remains on the living room floor, just in case a quick adventure is needed.

Aha! Caught you dangerous, fake mouse! Now into my liar where I can properly torture and torment you!
How about your cats? Does an empty box bring the kitten out in them or do they just yawn and look away?
On another note, we are so excited to share the news that our book, Purr Prints of the Heart – A Cat’s Tale of Life, Death, and Beyond made the Top 20 Best Books About Pets List for 2015 with Vanessa Morgan, author of the heartfelt book Avalon and founder of the gorgeous Traveling Cats.

We love Katris, and it’s a big hit at our house, too. Of course, in the end, it’s all about the box…
We think we would like those things too. Happy Birthday from all of us!

LOVE the picture of Zee as a penguin!
We have a few Katris scratchers at PAWS, and all the cats love them. That box looks to be a huge hit with your kitties. 🙂
Hugs, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Deb!
All cats seem to love boxes of all sizes and shapes. We are no exception!
That is a great box!!! The scratcher looks lovely too.
Happy Birthday Deb!
It is now and forever will be all about the box!! But that scratcher looks very sturdy!!
Oh yes! We always love the box the best! Sometimes the mom says she’s not going to get us any real toys…just boxes and bags. 🙂
Happy Birthday, Miss Deb!
Mudpie enjoys boxes, but Truffles was the box queen!
Happy Birthday! That is a great giveaway. And I am sure the kitties don’t care what letter the scratcher is.
Haha! It’s always the box that’s better than what’s inside.
Carmine LOVES boxes. He won’t let me get rid of some of the boxes he gets in the mail. I can’t keep them all, but he does have quite a few he hangs out in or on. Milita couldn’t care less about boxes. I have no idea why – she’s always been like that. She’s one of the few cats I know who just isn’t interested in what seems to be a universal cat favorite.
You know, mommy said I am the only kitty she ever had in all her squillion years that only likes carpet covered poles and scratchers. Wait..I do like my cardboard scratchers…I forgot but for great clawing it’s my big tower covered in carpet. And mom’s carpet when she can’t catch me.
dood….ewe haza L…now…… if ewe hada nother L it wood sorta kinda bee come
