Happy 7th birthday to Kizmet!<\/p><\/div>\n

Not every cat can share the same birthday as America without getting lost in the hoopla, but our Kizmet can because he’s truly one cool cat! Kizmet came into our lives in November of 2012 after I saw him in an adoption cage at Pet Supermarket and it was love at first sight. He always beat to his own drum, and as he celebrates his 7th birthday, he remains a very unique cat.  <\/p>\n

Look at this little face! Is it any wonder I fell in love with this precious boy?<\/p><\/div>\n

For example, Zee, Zoey, Mia, Peanut, Rolz, and Jazmine \u2013 his household cat companions – regardless whether it\u2019s breakfast, dinner, or an evening snack, you would think they\u2019ve never been fed before. Ever<\/em>. They meow. They jump up and down off the counter. They circle around my feet while I dole out the food. Kizmet is so laissez-faire that often I have to go and find him just to get him to eat.<\/p>\n

I know Kizmet hears me calling him, he just doesn’t care enough to make eating a priority!<\/p><\/div>\n

He’s typically lounging on the top tier of the cat condo in the room adjacent to the kitchen. I’ll call him a few times, but ultimately I have to go and get him. He’ll jump from one tier to the next, making a game out of it and as soon as I pick him up he jumps from my arms and races me to the kitchen counter where he knows his food is waiting, because, despite his oddness, he actually does<\/em> want to eat.<\/p>\n

Kizmet actually adores<\/em> the kitchen counter, to the point he believes it’s exclusively his. He’s not mean about it – no claws – but there will be a brief and courteous swat to any unwitting cat or human too close to his territory to let you know you best move on.<\/p>\n

As long as you understand it’s Kizmet’s counter, there really is no problem…<\/p><\/div>\n

He’s also fiercely devoted to me and has shown his loyalty to me during the most extreme of times. When I lost my precious Jazz at the age of 15 in 2013 and Harley a mere year later, he was at my side like glue to comfort me. When I was home recuperating from eye surgery last year, he was always inches away from me. When I’m in my office he’s either on top of my desk next to me, or sitting behind me on my chair, and every evening he has a habit of coming behind me on the couch and will lay his head on mine, wrapping his paws around me like he\u2019s hugging me.<\/p>\n

I have no idea how this can possibly be comfortable. but Kizmet loves to come and wedge himself between my back and my chair when I’m in my office.<\/p><\/div>\n
